London’s most celebrated designer du jour, Erdem Moralioglu, talks to us exclusively about his career, proudest moment, and treasured items from his closet.
My designs in three words… Colourful. Accidental. Optimistic
The girl I design for is… A girl who marches to the beat of her own drum. A girl who is independent, strong and beautiful.
My proudest career moment… Winning the Vogue Fashion Fund.
My most treasured piece of clothing is… My Mother’s wedding dress.
Favorite vacation spot… Formentera Island in the Balearics.
Every man should own… A pair of dancing shoes. Mine are a pair of patent Yves St Laurent loafers. I tend to dance in them even when there is no music.
A trend I despise is… Clothes that are too tight or make you look uncomfortable or anything that shows your navel – unless you’re on the beach.
The best aspect of my job is… I am able to be creative for a living.
Being part Turkish has helped me… and part British has made me realize that there is a wonderful beauty in coming from two very different places in the world.
The ten-word synopsis of my life… There are not enough words to describe the past 33 years. If you wanted a 10-year synopsis you should have asked me 23 years ago!
