One of our favorite designers of the moment, Anne Valérie Hash, answers 13 quick-fire questions and tells us why she thinks her Spring/Summer 2011 collection was hailed her greatest.

My design philosophy is… focused on the cut.

I have wanted to be a designer since… I turned 12 years old. At that time, I bought my first pair of high heels. 3 cm heels. I got in so much trouble with the headmaster of my school for those shoes!

My spring 2011 collection was hailed as my best because… we were at the closest of the brand’s DNA with a very high focus on the cut and a high quality of fabrics such as muslin, silk or leather. The color palette was very soft and subtle, like natural make-up tones.

The moment I knew I made it in fashion was… when the French Federation of Haute Couture gave me the “French Haute Couture” label.

I can’t live without… green tea. I drink tons of it everyday. It helps me to stay calm and focused all day long. The whole team is addicted to green tea. I buy mine in Japan when I go there.

The most treasured item in my closet is… a pair of Rainbow shoes by Salvatore Ferragamo.

My source of inspiration is… usually very unexpected. My inspiration sources are very different, but, in general, contemporary art has a very strong influence on my life and on my work. In my everyday life, anything from the movement of a piece of fabric to the form of a leaf can become inspiring. A sound, a feeling, it just catches me by surprise.

Nobody knows my secret talent is… I am a very good cook. Actually, my friends do know that I love cooking.

If I could come back as a dress, it would be… any Azzedina Alaïa or Yohji Yamamoto dress.

At age seven, I wanted to be… an adult.

My work process is… to work forms directly on toile. I don’t draw; I drape toile on a model’s body directly. Drawings come after that, when the volume is created.

I love my job because… Working in the fashion industry is very stimulating, as you never reach the end of it. You always have to open your mind and your eyes. It’s a permanent challenge that I love. It’s not always easy though. To stay creative, your mind has to be peaceful and ready. That’s the balance you have to reach to stay in the race.

Other than myself, my favorite designer is… I have always been fascinated by the technique of Azzedine Alaïa, the modernity of Coco Chanel, and the magic of Alber Elbaz.
