Missoni’s directional presentation for Fall/Winter 2015 ran counter the top emerging trends of the season, opting for slinky, body-conscious fits layered beneath psychedelically printed outerwear instead. Everyone else is doing wide-leg culottes and tailored trousers, and Missoni showed leggings. Everyone else copped 60s and 70s styling, and Missoni channeled the 80s. Although contrarian, the attitude was playful and exotic, resulting in a fun affair electrified by crackling patterns and vibrant color pairings.
Out came trippy patterns on overcoats met with similar surfaces on mini dresses and skintight leggings. This look was quickly followed by fitted dresses and Lurex overlays, multi-patterned separates paired with oversized jackets, and relaxed knit suiting. The main focus of the collection was an update of Missoni’s heritage zigzag patterned knitwear. It was rendered in desert pastels, vibrant candy-colors, earthy neutrals, and a seductive triptych of black, red, and white. Proportion balance was also a key factor, pitting more voluminous outerwear against slim tailoring elements. Although Missoni’s Fall/Winter 2015 presentation is a little one-note, the brand’s commitment to evolving their most iconic signature resulted in rewarding moments that will appeal to a more youthful clientele.
