Wherever Baby Jane Holzer went, the party followed. The 1960s socialite and model that hobnobbed with Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, and was once named “The Girl of the Year” by Thomas Wolfe in a New York Magazine report, was a magnetic influence on the Blumarine collection for Fall/Winter 2015. Ripe with gorgeous, desirable party clothes, Blumarine’s presentation injected fun into the winter line-up, but pragmatic needs were not neglected along the way. Instead, the show opens with a fantastically simple line-up of cozy outerwear before diving into more glamorous looks. Mink coats, fuzzy oversized cardigans, and cowl-neck knitwear led the parade, offering up plenty of warm, practical looks for the season. After this dense selection came a variety of short-and-sexy mini-dresses and miniskirts which were decorated with star-spangled appliqués. Bereft hemlines continued on ombré frocks, shiny tie-front dresses with plunging necklines, and frizzy minis offset with metallic tinsel. Floor-sweeping gowns were the most impressive, and designer Anna Molinari dazzled spectators with a sheer navy version covered in multi-colored metallic stripes, a glittering fur option, and another in lovely sheer fabric covered in ruffled petal appliqués. A stand-out favorite was a glimmering pewter gown textured with an embossed stitch, and a jumpsuit etched with tusk-like print amplified by microscopic crystal beading. The high-wattage shine and inviting glamour of Blumarine’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection is sure to attract “It” girls by the thousands, in much the same way Holzer elicited a following by bringing the glamour of Paris back to New York during the counter-culture heyday of the 1960s.
