Viktor & Rolf’s last couture collection had turned to a metaphysical conceit for support, which ultimately failed to connect with the audience or receive positive reviews. This season, it is with great relief that we see two of the most creative minds in fashion return to the type of incredible show-stopping designs that we’ve come to associate them with. Spring 2015 Couture was an exuberant outing, with flowers jettisoning off the surface of bubbly, adorable dresses, which flaunted true creative prowess.
Voluminous silhouettes, graphic floral prints, and straw hats (with actual straw poking haphazardly from the surface) transformed Viktor & Rolf’s Spring 2015 Couture show into an exhilarating romp through the countryside. The enormous, branching blossoms that grew from the surface of flouncy frocks took incredible skill to suspend in the air – this is the kind of excellent, imaginative craftsmanship that Viktor & Rolf is known for. We’re a little stumped as to what occasion one might wear a four-foot-wide floral dress with an eight-foot-high flower attachment to in the real world, but in fantasy we’d say somewhere like an invite-only Dr. Seuss art party co-hosted by Tim Burton.
