Water, rock, and crystal inspired the Narciso Rodriguez Spring/Summer 2015 collection, and his masterfully rendered designs managed to flawlessly reflect these elements without becoming them. Therefore, Rodriguez’s sharp, chic, tailored collection represented the ideal blend of the natural and the manmade. Instead of using prints to make the organic nature of the collection literal, Rodriguez subtly rendered the water, rock, and crystal in lines and colors.
The show began with a loose-fitting monochrome slip dress that contained a hint of sparkle at the hip. He followed it up with similar relaxed dresses and separates that were spruced up with graphic swaths of color. The languid fit of the clothes echoed the laidback style of the show, with models shown wearing loose locks and little makeup. Workwear and bodysuits hardly belong in the same sentence, but Narciso Rodriguez made the disparate elements work together by crafting bodysuits that looked like they were assembled from separate pieces. As looks progressed, they became more revealing, with sheer fabrics and insets showing hints of the body beneath.
Rodriguez also added allure to his clothing by showing asymmetrical hemlines and contrast lapels on jackets, sleeveless tunics, and dresses. Crystal was used sparingly to add reflective allure to plain shift dresses until the final act when Rodriguez bedazzled the last three looks with jet-black sequins. If you’re looking for refined clothing that expresses sensuality in unexpected ways, Rodriguez’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection will surprise you with its graceful allure.
