They say there’s nothing new under the sun, and never has that rang more true than in the fashion world, where recycling trends is part of the design process. This season, however, 3.1 Phillip Lim decided that fashion still had room to improve and introduced a new way of doing peplum, which is a major accomplishment given the popularity of classic peplum details on contemporary designs. Instead of symmetrically flaring the peplum above the hip, as is tradition, Lim wove structured peplum hems haphazardly onto the bodice of his looks. The curving, architectural nature of his nouveau-peplum technique added intense dimensionality to his looks.

After establishing this innovative style on youthful separates and flirty frocks, Lim echoed the curving peplum with similar lines on the rest of his looks. The curving lapels of a cropped jacket fit together like puzzle pieces, while mini shift dresses were pieced together with rounded fabrics that crossed the body. The designer also turned to menswear for inspiration and came up with fantastic looks like a multi-colored crop top with judo belting paired with low-slung pleated trousers and a modified tuxedo jacket. Fresh, feminine, and flirty looks reign at 3.1 Phillip Lim for Spring/Summer 2015, which reflects just how savvy he is at delivering clothes that stylish women want to wear.
