Although Rami Al Ali hails from war-torn Syria, the designer’s collections reflect peace, harmony, and incredible red carpet elegance. For Fall 2014 Couture, the Dubai-based designer relied on the beauty of nature for inspiration, and translated delicate trellises, dense forest leaves, and stunning floral petals into a romantic collection of princess gowns and body-conscious dresses.
In an exclusive chat with Savoir Flair this morning, Al Ali told us, “The initial spark of inspiration for my Autumn/Winter collection was ignited by a trip I took to Brazil earlier this year. I was captivated by the concept of the rainforest and its hidden depths; I wanted the collection to capture the juxtaposition of the vibrancy and stillness it offered. I experimented with silhouette and a colour palette made up of vivid hues offset by muted tones.”
His tender looks featured intense craftsmanship such as lasercut gold overlays, Swarovski crysal netting, and ribbed silks draped into alluring shapes. Branches of multi-colored crystal, feathery leaf embroidery, and fernlike textures added to the organic quality of Rami Al Ali’s looks. His earthy palette of forest green, sage, mauve, sunflower yellow and taupe were paired with delicious bolts of jewel tones like royal purple and crimson for a refreshing approach to fall hues. The understated beauty of Rami Al Ali’s collection is not the least among its most appreciable factors – there is no doubt that the red carpet will beckon to his voluminous ball gowns and preternaturally pretty frocks.
