Etro’s signature paisley is the star of its Fall/Winter 2014 presentation at Milan Fashion Week, but this time it’s taken to significantly more sophisticated extremes. Veronica Etro read emerging seasonal trends like a pyschic, and delivered exactly the type of relaxed, cozy fare we are coveting. With an artistic flair, she developed layered looks that featured a mosaic of contrasting prints alongside plush blanket wraps and drop-waist silhouettes. Etro’s craftwork weaves together a multi-cultural tapestry that blends Italian luxury with patterns found in the traditional costuming of the Ottoman Empire, Qing Dynasty, and the Northern Plateau of Tibet – so the overall feel is folksy without being homey. A woodland palette enhanced the richness of the presentation, and the occasional fox fur jacket amped up the luxe side of Etro’s outerwear selection. Though coordinated paisley separates might feel a little gaudy, her more neutral approach works really well, especially on her beautifully cut dresses. If sophistication with a hint of cultured, jet-setting style is your ideal, Etro is dishing it out in spades.
