Sportmax snarls past the rest of Milan Fashion Week with startling ferocity on the strength of an animal print-clad collection which pushed extravagance to its breaking point. Italian luxury brands are known for their kinship with luxe materials: skins from every reptile that slithers the ground and fur from every beast that roams the earth. Sportmax decided to do it all, presenting the best of what Milan has come to be associated with in the fashion world. There are looks that boast two types of leopard print: Separates that double down on reptile, blood-red python skirts, and rainbow-dyed mohair coats. Yet, there are stunning moments that offer a break from the opulence. Minimal cape-dresses and color-blocked frocks provided a moment of pause amid the heady rush of affluent splendor. Pollockian art prints closed the show, adding graphic appeal to the clash of maximal and minimal. This measure assured us that Sportmax knows how to balance the equation.
