For Fall/Winter 2014, American fashion heavyweight Ralph Lauren devoted the first portion of his collection to the debut of a new Polo womenswear line. Sweet shades of ivory, bubblegum pink, lilac, and dusty rose belied the incredible sophistication of Lauren’s latest launch. Fluid, flowing garments and beautiful tailoring erred on the side of modesty, but their figure-skimming proportions built sensual appeal into the looks. Even covered up and cozy, the Ralph Lauren woman’s confident demeanor refused to be snuffed out. Monochrome separates, serape blankets, immense fur coats, and silk blouses laced with crystal chains made a very tempting pitch to the après-ski crowd.

For the Ralph Lauren portion of the presentation, the designer put forward elegant silk column gowns, maxi slip dresses, soft suede jumpsuits, and theatrical dresses finished with rippling capes. Eveningwear kept to the same minimalism as daywear, but was imbued with a sort of aloof aristocratic style that tends to come part and parcel with Lauren loyalists. Refined fashion still has its place in this world, and Ralph Lauren continues to fan its flame season after season with polished collections of which Fall/Winter 2014 is a perfect example.
