Shaikha Noor Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Al Khalifa presented the Noon by Noor Fall/Winter 2014 collection to a front row that included a coterie of fashion insiders, including Coco Rocha, Solange Knowles, and Nigel Barker.
For their latest collection, the Bahrain-based designers looked to nature, or more specifically “the beautiful colors and unique markings in the minerals and crystals”. Accordingly, the collection glistened with delicate jewel embellishment. It was sprinkled across the neckline of Look 30, a dramatic burgundy gown, and infused in sportswear-inspired pieces, such as an ice-blue neoprene sweatshirt. Other notable elements of the collection included the oversized 1920s-inspired mohair coats, geometric prints, and unexpected pops of royal purple and neon yellow that kept the presentation feeling decidedly preppy-meets-eclectic, just the type of mix-and-match style we’ve come to expect from the brand. Sheer button-down blouses with sparkling appliqué on the front pockets and tulle underskirts were flirty, but admittedly bordered on trite in their on-trend-ness.
Although the designers’ attributed their inspiration to the natural world this season – a familiar motif for the brand – overall the collection felt less ethereal and more bright lights big city, which, after all, is not a bad place to be grounded considering that’s where the bright young things can be found.
