While other labels ruminate on pre-fall’s transitional, commercial message, House of Holland powers past its peers with a collection of wildly covetable prints, neon-accented separates, and seriously short hemlines. Ultra-hip, street style cool meets prim-and-proper dress codes in this vibrant presentation. Henry Holland’s reference point is the untamable schoolgirl type we’ve seen in shows like Skins and Gossip Girl, and the drama they drum up is as titillating as anything Effy or Georgina Sparks have ever plotted. If Holland’s girl had a blog, we’d read it everyday.
It’s hard to say whether it’s his rhapsodic palette of turquoise, magenta, and bright purple or his hip separates that offer more appeal. At any rate, we’re willing to bite, and House of Holland reels us in with subversively funny jogging suits printed with the phrase “Giddy Up”, color-blocked varsity jackets, and kaleidoscopic mini dresses. Holland’s brand of fun is flavored with a hint of naughtiness and irreverence, making it a tempting treat for those who were “raised better” and a familiar look for those who were born into the type of privilege that begets wanton behavior.
