Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection featured a lot of “meow meow” with a parade of cat prints and embroidery. Forgive the joke, but if any brand at Paris Fashion Week has a sense of humor, it’s Miu Miu. In addition to the adorable feline fête, fresh-faced coeds from the 1960s enjoy a makeover at the hands of Miuccia Prada; in fitted coats of fur, liquid leather, velvet, and python, the Miu Miu girl gamboles gaminely through campus. Mod turns modern with key luxury touches and artistic prints, and herein lies the thesis of the collection.
Miu Miu’s chic 1960s-inspired coats are paired with shiny leather mini skirts in turquoise and lipstick red. Thrown in the mix are wooly tights, suede lace-up thigh-high boots and patent leather Mary Janes. Though the look is curiously heavy given the season, one need only strip off the tights and unbutton the coats to enjoy the freshness of Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2014 offerings. In the mix are suede skirt and jacket combinations that were decorated with colorful face silhouettes and flowers (signature Prada), crystal and fringed embellished printed slip dresses, and leather toppers printed with cats, fish and birds. Schoolgirl styling aside, Miu Miu’s bright palette and cheerful prints are given a luxurious finish with exotic fabrics and crystal fringes – bringing a richness and depth to a collection that might be written off as merely “cute” at first glance.
