Elie Saab has a lock on sexy eveningwear, as he has demonstrated season after season. And this season is no different. At first glance, the opening looks have a certain innocence to them; hair is pulled back by a sweet and simple headband and the garments are a beautiful pink hue, adorned with 3-D floral appliqués. However, a closer look reveals sheer fabrics, appliqués, and sequins that barely cover the model’s decency, and strands of hair that are pulled over the headband instead of under. Some of the shorter, lacy looks could easily be mistaken for lingerie. The result is sexy, almost rebellious.
In spite of that, the silhouettes remain sweet. Playsuits give way to babydoll dresses, three-quarter-length sleeves, and adorable frilly lace numbers. Elegant, more grown-up pieces include knee-length dresses with peplum details and beautifully tailored, flowing trousers. In keeping with the theme of the collection, “A Garden of Lace”, Saab cuts out pieces of blazers and tops and replaces them with panels of lace. He has always favored monochrome looks, matching accessories to the garments on the runway, all in the same solid tone. This season, however, he presented a series of floral-printed looks. While the anemone print never covered entire garments, it was used as embellishment around the collar or bottom hem of dresses.
Once again, Elie Saab did what he does best and presented his patrons with a beautiful collection that is sure to make them the center of attention at their next event, whether it’s a cocktail party in Emirates Hills or an awards ceremony in the Hollywood Hills.
