Milan Fashion Week Coverage: Marni Spring 2014 Collection

For her Spring 2014 collection, Marni Creative Director Consuelo Castiglioni truly allowed her garments to bloom. First came subtle, darker flowers announcing the change of seasons, printed on dresses, top-and-skirt combinations, and knee-length jackets, all cinched at the waist by striped, almost sporty belts that threw the looks slightly off kilter. Next came prints that resembled cherry blossoms, first in light green and then in pastel pink. The final looks saw garments, like a bomber jacket or a pencil skirt, covered entirely in what looked like small 3-D flower appliqués in an array of different shades.

If you like your romance with a touch of restraint, look no further than Marni for SS14.

Although she provided plenty of outerwear options for chilly summer nights, Castiglioni kept these light with the use of linen and chiffon. Relatively reserved silhouettes were transformed by ruffle details on the skirts, which started just below the navel and dipped around the hips, and origami folds down the fronts of pencil skirts and dresses. There was an undeniable Japanese influence at play here, from kimono-inspired pieces and cherry blossoms to the platform sandals from which the models perched.

With such a controlled and almost austere collection, the accessories were the true highlight of the presentation. A touch of sportiness came in the form of fanny packs and sun visors, which were covered in jewels by the end of the presentation. Beautiful, bold necklaces made of ribbon and kitschy accents like a pair of sunglasses and a perfume bottle added a bit of fun to the whole affair.

If you like your romance with a touch of restraint, look no further than Marni for Spring/Summer 2014.
