After last spring’s opulent prints, Thakoon scales back the mood of the season with a romantic collection that glows as softly as a sleepy sunrise.
This quiet collection is brimming with light and life – every surface etched with subtle-yet-vibrant details like crystal embroidery and diamanté clasps. A gentle palette of pale lemon, cream, and beige was counteracted only occasionally by a smattering of crisp black toppers and a handful of inky dresses. What carries forth the romance here is all of the luxe lingerie, with slim slip dresses trimmed in crystals and etched with sprawls of Midland lace.
Thakoon transitions from the bedroom to the boardwalk with several looks comprised of tiny bandeau tops, worn with either gleaming PVC skirts or beneath spaghetti-strapped jumpsuits. Don’t be fooled by the simple slip dresses, plain smocks, and basic tunics; magnificent design details abound in this collection. Thakoon takes thin slices of black lace panels and lays them over step-down folds that ended in a bubble hem at the hip, and continues this same idea to create a brilliant skirt that features stiff plissé pleats hanging in overlapping layers of different lengths. Crowd favorites were the thigh-high, lace, peep-toe boots and tiny pocketbooks worn on long pearl strands that wrapped elegantly around the models’ throats.
Even for all of the flesh presented, there is a sense of wide-eyed innocence at work. Trot out in one of these outfits and you’ll surely turn heads, but the male gaze is not the point here. What Thakoon inspires is a type of feminine attitude that cares more about style and subtle elegance than lustful responses.
