Alexandre Vauthier raises the temperature at Fall 2013 Couture Week with a flesh-revealing, sultry collection that puts everything on display. Models are literally in a state of undress as they unzip their sharply tailored blazers on the runway or trot the catwalk in ruched, see-through dresses. The first looks are tamer, as fur-trimmed bombers are paired with silk harem pants or cut-away pencil skirts. The turban-like folds that decorate the hips of many of the looks are a smart way to create movement and comfort on clothes that cling. Although his motif is sex and suggestion, he also includes loose silk tuxedo toppers, soft angora turtlenecks, and sweet chubby fur coats to add a layer of warmth to the revealing garments below. For night, Vauthier envisions his vixen on the prowl in gowns that dip to the belly button or reveal skin with severely slashed cutouts. Decorative elements are glittering and brilliant, like crystal embroidery, metallic beading, and sequin stitching. Fittingly for the fall season, Vauthier’s best looks are comprised of his outerwear. The strength of so much puffy fur and gleaming leather is this collection’s top selling point.
