Pretty can be boring, predictable, and routine, but the kind of pretty that Madiyah Al Sharqi does is pure innovation. Capable of transforming lovely pastels, feminine lace, and softly flared silhouettes into geometrically appointed works of art has become Al Sharqi’s signature. Indeed, she has never created a collection more solidly rooted in contemporary structure than her work for Spring/Summer 2016, which expands beyond her beloved eveningwear staples to include daywear.
Speaking exclusively to Savoir Flair, the designer shares, “This season, I wanted to take a slightly different direction, but keeping the ethos of the brand, as we are building our international presence. It was important for me to focus on separates and daywear. Previously, the brand was known for eveningwear, so it was an interesting experience to see how I could incorporate its DNA into more paired-back looks.”
But “more paired back” doesn’t mean any less heavenly – Sharqi’s collection is brimming with beauty in the form of cold-shoulder, ruffled blouses, off-shoulder lampshade tops in delicate lace, sturdy seamed trousers, and plenty of other looks we wouldn’t mind wearing to the office, a dinner party, or an evening on the town.
