Rooney Mara demonstrates how to do lingerie dressing without being too risqué.

The “underwear as outerwear” trend has been around for many seasons – we’ve seen it done countless times at Dolce & Gabbana and it is, again, one of the biggest trends for Spring/Summer 2016, as showcased on the runways of Givenchy, Chloé, Celine, and Balenciaga. If you thought you’d be a pro at this by now, but still can’t quite get it right, don’t worry; it’s still considered to be one of the trickiest trends to try, even for the bravest and most fashion savvy amongst us. This trend is made even more tricky to pull off by the fact that we live in a region with very modest cultural traditions.

A number of risk-taking celebrities have tried their own take on the trend, but none have stood out like Carol star Rooney Mara at the 27th Annual Palm Spring International Film Festival. She walked the red carpet looking smouldering hot in a black Lanvin mini dress with lace-trimmed details, demonstrating the absolute perfect way to rock the trend without showing too much skin.

The great news is that you won’t have to spend a single dirham to cop this look as it requires layering two items that most likely already exist in your wardrobe: your trusty LBD and your favourite lace-trimmed camisole. Follow Mara’s lead and make the look appropriate, classy, and sweet at the same time by styling it with pointed slingback pumps and a slick bun.

Go ahead and finally give this trend a try on your next GNO.
