If you could have witnessed anything in history, what would it have been?
The creation of the world, Frank Sinatra in concert, the inner workings of Raf Simons’ mind, and the library of Alexandria.
If you could change something about the fashion industry, what would it be?
Fashion can be both beautifully empowering and devastatingly destructive. The role the industry plays in the destruction of the environment (Did you know that it’s the second most harmful industry to the environment after oil and gas?) and the maintenance of a status quo around the world that sees human rights and labor laws consistently pushed aside by greed and a bottomless hunger for profit is something that I feel increasingly passionate about. Next time you walk up to the till with a 100 dirham shirt in your hand, ask yourself where it came from and what it cost nature and the person who stitched it together for you.
If you could do something else for a living, what would it be?
I would be a yoga instructor living on a beach somewhere exotic and secluded. I’m not particularly good at it, nor do I think I would enjoy doing #YogaEveryDamnDay (as the popular hashtag goes), but I can’t deny the appeal a quiet, slow life – the opposite of life in digital publishing! Which reminds me, I have deadlines to get back to…
Where are you happiest in the world?
Rummaging through local markets on the outskirts of Bangkok, catching a boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with my better half, watching the sun rise from a beach in Ibiza, scrapbooking on the floor of my TV room on a Friday night, devouring bowls of guacamole with my best friends at Loca, putting up Christmas decorations with my family, and holding my breath as the wheels of a plane lift off from the tarmac, taking me towards new discoveries and adventures or back home to my loved ones.
If you could call yourself five years ago and had 10 seconds, what would you say?
Wear SPF, keep your flared pants, invest in a good eye cream, and don’t count calories.
