Why did you start Savoir Flair?
I was, quite literally, dreaming about Savoir Flair for years before I launched it. The Middle East has historically been very progressive as an early adopter of new technologies, but when it came to digital publishing, we were well behind the rest of the world. I couldn’t fathom, for the life of me, why no one had thought to launch a digital publication. Naturally, I took my curiosity for the medium (which in those years was at its absolute peak) and married it with my love for the fashion industry. And the rest, as they say, is history.
If you could have invented anything, what would it be?
I would have loved to have invented the internet – the single most important creation of all time, and even more impactful than the industrial revolution. It’s a multidisciplinary tool that has revolutionized communication and forever changed our lives – from the way we socialize, consume content, conduct research, pay our bills, shop for clothing, and even escape reality.
What is a typical day in your life like?
There is nothing typical about my days except for the time I arrive in the office (8:30 a.m.) and conduct an editorial meeting with our team. Other than that, no two days are the same, especially as I juggle my role as Publisher along with my role as Editor-in-Chief.
What are people most surprised to learn about you?
That I listen to, and love, gangsta rap, hip hop, and R&B. I can keep up with the best of ’em.
What do you love most about your job?
The people I work with. They are a group of highly intellectual, hard-working women and men who also happen to be the funnest and kindest people I have ever met. They make coming to work (and our typically long hours) an absolute pleasure.
