If ever you imagined dinner in a desert as a clichéd One Thousand and One Arabian Nights setting, erase all notions you have in your mind of what a desert setting might be.
In a long drive down from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, 20 guests arrive at the mystery location: Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa, where the enormously talented Alamira Noor Bani Hashim and Buthaina Al Mazrui, co-founders of The Dinner Club by No. 57, have taken a bare desert and transformed it into a breathtaking scene that looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. The two have gathered 18 guests for one of their highly-anticipated evenings to celebrate Piaget’s new Possession collection during a sit-down dinner co-hosted by Savoir Flair’s Founding Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Haleh Nia.
“I wanted something completely unnatural for the desert, so I chose materials like concrete and marble and metal. I wanted it to feel like a UFO landed in the middle of nowhere”, Bani Hashim tells us of her inspiration for the décor of the evening. Indeed, as each guest arrived, she commented on the futuristic setup. In fact, much of the evening was spent with questions being fielded by Bani Hashim and Al Mazrui from their guests about the beginnings of The Dinner Club, which has officially become the most coveted invite in the Middle East.
In between bites of a mouthwatering tenderloin and vegetable pasta main course Al Mazrui oversaw, the sole male guest in attendance, Piaget Brand Director Jean-Marc Shammas, rose to give a charming speech. To a captive audience of invitees – Diala Makki, Rosemin Manji, Salama Alabbar, and Ola Farahat were just a few in attendance – he gave an inspirational talk that harkened back to the Piaget Possession collection’s slogan, ‘My Turn’. “For you amazing entrepreneurs, you women who have done so much with your lives, we hope this collection will remind you of the moment that turned your lives around”, Shammas said.
