Go to Google and begin typing “Soraya” – Soraya Bakhtiar will be one of the first names to auto-populate the search. If that isn’t a modern-day indicator of her burgeoning success level across social media, we don’t know what is! One of Europe’s most successful fashion bloggers, the Egyptian-Iranian influencer now divides her time between Geneva and London — the latter being her home away from home, which she visits roughly every six weeks. London has become a hotspot for “It” girls of Middle Eastern origin and Bakhtiar is one of its most popular faces. For that reason, Savoir Flair followed her around the city to her favorite spots to pick her brain on all things London.
Tell us a bit about the locations you chose for your shoot with Savoir Flair.
The first location is the South Kensington area. Whenever I’m in London, I usually stay around there at the Ampersand Hotel, which is a super-cute boutique hotel. I love this area; it feels like a village and it doesn’t make me feel too far from home. The second location I chose is Jak’s. When I used to live in London, it was my go-to place for a quick and healthy bite, so now whenever I’m back in London I try to organize some of my meetings there. It has incredible pastries, and the carrot cake is to die for!
How often do you visit London from Geneva?
I go to London every six weeks for ten days, and whenever I’m in town I combine work and leisure.
In your opinion, what’s London’s best hidden gem?
Spitalfields Market in East London.
Do you have any rituals in London?
Avocado on toast at Shoreditch House, carrot cake from Jak’s, and a pit stop at Topshop and Liberty London in between meetings. I also love strolling around Notting Hill on Sundays or in Hyde Park.
How would you describe your style?
My style is a little bit bohemian, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, and a tad eclectic. I like to mix the hard and the soft with a play on textures, prints, and colors.
What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever received?
Less is more. Focus on one statement piece, whether it’s a necklace, a handbag, or a bright-colored coat.
And the best fashion advice you’d ever dish out?
Wear clothes that suit your body type. Too often, we get carried away with trends and forget that it’s still essential to remain feminine and to look our best in clothes that compliment our bodies.
Can we expect you in Dubai soon?
Definitely before the end of the year, after the fall Fashion Weeks! I love Dubai and I can’t wait to come back!
