With the much-anticipated Bahrain Grand Prix having wrapped a week ago, we still have our eyes on the Pearl of Arabia, which is at the top of the list of destinations to visit when you’re looking for a quick weekend getaway. Savoir Flair recently travelled to the country’s main island, soaking in as much as possible in under 36 hours.
If you’re looking to do the same before Ramadan, click through the gallery below to discover the places to see and things to do while in Bahrain.
Staying at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain is a destination in and of itself. There’s a little bit of everything on this private island surrounded by Gulf waters where you can find solace and sun.
If you’re looking for a quick change of scenery, but don’t feel like heading out of the hotel, a visit to its newly re-launched Italian restaurant, Primavera, for a mix of fine and casual dining is highly recommended.
Primavera’s gastronomic line-up includes uncomplicated and easy-to-digest (literally and figuratively) dishes that are a fusion of Italian and local flavors.
Aside from its dishes, another eye-catching feature of the restaurant is the modern Italian décor, with embossed walls featuring Boticelli’s Primavera.
The Manama Souq is the place to go for Bahrain’s traditional trinkets and treasures, including natural-oil perfumes, vintage photographs, and handicrafts. Just plan your visit in the morning or after 4 p.m., as the shops are closed during and after lunch.
Although Bahrain is a country rich in culture and history, Manama is filled with modern and impressive architectural buildings.
The Al Muharraq area is the unassuming neighborhood where you’ll find the Shaikh Ebrahim Centre of Culture and Research, but prepare to be taken by surprise. What lies inside is a beautiful space housing unexpected artworks.
Along with Block 338, a charming pedestrian quarter full of concept cafés and art galleries, this area is also a must-visit if you’re looking for a quiet destination.
Before flying back, kill some time in the recently revamped Gulf Air Falcon Gold lounge in the Bahrain International Airport and enjoy such amenities as private sleeping rooms, a business area, and a modern self-service buffet.
