It’s not easy to block out memories when you’re dealing with a break up. You could be going about your day normally when, out of nowhere and without warning, a wonderful memory surfaces.
I look out my window, strangely nostalgic, and realize it’s been almost a month since we parted ways and I still can’t stop thinking about you. Perhaps it’s all those memories of lounging on the sundeck – earphones on and book in hand – tuning out the rest of the world and enjoying the views of Jimbaran Bay in the comfort of my own private villa. Yes, I’m talking about a holiday break up – a holiday at the Four Seasons Resort Bali in Jimbaran Bay. It was love at first sight and unlike anything I had ever experienced before.
I remember falling head over heels the moment I laid eyes on the 35-acre landscaped paradise located on the southern tip of Bali. The interiors of its 147 Balinese-style villas were designed by Dale Keller & Associates, and the result is incredibly luxurious, yet understated. My own villa came with a plush, princess-like sleeping pavilion, two living areas, and my own round-the-clock security – or what the resort calls ‘service family members’.
As we spent more time together, I found that there was much more to love about the Four Seasons Resort Bali. With the best Bali had to offer at my doorstep, I had no reason to leave the hotel. Days flew by doing water and recreational activities, such as surfing, paddle boarding, and sailing. There was also a Balinese cooking class, a half-day activity during which dedicated chefs taught guests authentic Indonesian dishes and culinary techniques. Hours were also spent on the daybeds spread across Sundara, one of Bali’s most sophisticated lounges and restaurants, just listening to the sound of crashing waves, breathing in the cool, crisp ocean breeze, and watching the sunset slowly drift into the horizon.
We were inseparable, but as they say all good things must come to an end. Although my trip was far from Julia Roberts’ experience in the movie Eat Pray Love, it was something that I desperately needed to momentarily escape the daily grind. I’ll cherish our memories forever and hope we meet again soon, Four Season Resort Bali.
