When you’re dreaming of your future home and envisioning what it will look like, it most likely looks something like the home of Negin Fattahi-Dasmal. The Iranian-born entrepreneur, founder, and owner of The Grooming Company – which includes the beloved NBar, Jet Set, and 1847 – designed every last corner of the villa that she, her husband, and four beautiful children have lived in for the last nine years. From start to finish, the home took five years to build, and it was well worth the wait. The house echoes serenity and balance, a feeling that she says has “evolved through different pieces over time”.
When Fattahi-Dasmal told Savoir Flair that she had no help from an interior designer, we were surprised, to say the least. While she may not be a professional interior designer, it is definitely a natural knack. “I was inspired by both of my parents – my father has always had an amazing eye for detail, and my mother loves interiors and collecting things, especially antiques,” Fattahi-Dasmal says. “She’s the type who times her trips to London to be there on a Saturday for the Portobello Market to find tea sets, antiques, and other collectibles. She would always come back with an extra suitcase filled with stuff.”
Little touches like healthy snacks, piles of coffee-table books, and vases filled with lilies and hydrangeas bring the rooms together. “I cannot live without fresh flowers. If a room has no fresh flowers, I feel like it has no life. I can’t explain it, but I just love flowers,” she tells us. “White lilies have something special about them; they are so graceful in the way they open – it’s just a beautiful transformation that happens over a few days and you watch each part of it happen. It’s incredible.”
As for her favorite spot in the house, Fattahi-Dasmal tells us it is definitely the family room. “I sit in a special corner of the L-shaped sofa with the door open, and just listen to the water feature. Whether I’m catching up with friends on the phone or working on my laptop, I just love sitting there to hear the water and feel the freshness of the air.” While it’s hard for us to choose a favorite spot, we definitely wouldn’t mind spending another day in this breathtaking home.
