Harry and William Put Aside Differences For Their Grandfather's Funeral
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and consort of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for 73 years, was laid to rest at Windsor Castle yesterday during a small, family affair in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions and the Duke’s last wishes. The somber service, however, was televised for the public. Prince Harry has not been back home to England in over a year, and recently participated in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and his wife, Meghan Markle – who had to watch the memorial from their home in California due to being in the third trimester of her pregnancy. The moving memorial was the picture of decorum, however, and while Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William – who have been reportedly at odds since the royal exit – were separated by their cousin Peter Phillips during the initial procession, the brothers were seen walking and chatting together, along with the Duchess of Cambridge, after the service. Hopefully, the brothers will be able to mend bridges and move forward in the wake of their grief.
It's Officially Over for J.Lo and ARod
It’s official. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are officially unofficial. Stories began circling that the beloved singing sensation and her baseball-slugging fiancé of two years were going through a rough patch in March, but the pair insisted they were still together and trying to work things out. However, after their announcement two days ago, it appears that their differences were irreconcilable. “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” they said in a join statement. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
Helen McCrory of Harry Potter and Peaky Blinders Has Passed Away
Helen McCrory, the actress who played Aunt Polly in the beloved hit series Peaky Blinders as well as Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, has passed away at age 52 from cancer. Her husband, Homeland actor Damien Lewis, expressed his enormous grief for his “beautiful and mighty” wife via Twitter. “We love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly.”
United Arab Emirates Names the First Female Arab Astronaut
The first female Arab astronaut was named last week to the United Arab Emirates’ ambitious space program. Mechanical engineer graduate, Nora Al Matrooshi, was chosen out of the more than 4,000 candidates for one of two positions. Al Matrooshi will join Mohammad Al Mulla, also selected for the program, in Texas to undergo training at NASA‘s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The 27-year-old said on Twitter, “I aim to work hard to script historical moments and achievements that will be etched forever in the memory of our people.”

And Just Like That... Aidan is Back in the Game
John Corbett, who played Aidan Shaw – one of Carrie Bradshaw’s most beloved boyfriends in Sex and the City – has gone on record to say that he is returning for the reboot and added that he thinks he will be in “quite a few” episodes. As it remains to be unconfirmed on whether or not Chris Noth, who plays Mr. Big, is returning, Corbett’s revelation was received with (huge) open arms from everyone who has been Team Aidan all along. However, HBO has refused to comment on the interview, and Sarah Jessica Parker left a cryptic message on a fan account which congratulated all of the Aidan stans of the world by saying: “I’m not saying one way or another whether our beloved Mr. Corbett’s interview deals in facts or fiction, but the response is amazing to read.”

The New SLS in Dubai Might Actually Have the Highest Pool In the World
The new SLS Dubai Hotel and Residences officially began welcoming guests on April 5th, and marked the very first SLS hotel to open in the Middle East. The luxury hotel boasts amazing views from its reception, which sits on one of the higher levels of the hotel, basically flipping the traditional flow of a hotel on its head. It has also launched an infinity pool with breathtaking views of Dubai’s iconic skyline. News broke this week that the pool is currently being measured to see if the pool is, in fact, the highest infinity pool in the world — thus challenging the Guinness Book of World Records title from Address Beach Resort (which recently opened in JBR). A competition for the highest pool in the world? That’s so Dubai.
Chef Izu Awarded UAE Golden Visa
Chef Izu Ani, the popular Dubai-based chef responsible for leading the kitchens of La Petite Maison and La Serre, before launching his own well-loved restaurants including GAIA, Carine, and The Lighthouse, has been awarded a UAE Golden Visa for his dedication to the culinary cuisine in the Emirate since 2010. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, introduced the UAE Gold Card Visa in 2019 in order to grant permanent residency to exceptional, valued, and contributing individuals residing in the U.A.E. His son, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan, has frequently been seen eating at Chef Izu’s restaurants across the Emirate.
Chef Izu said, “I feel honored and proud to have been recognized with the UAE Gold Card Visa. To me, Dubai is not a transient place, it is somewhere that we can call home, rather than just pass through. It is a destination that allows us to grow. When we invest in ourselves, in our passions and projects, we plant the seeds of development. Seeds that can grow into cities, where we can spread our roots. With hard work comes reward and recognition, and it is so inspiring to live in a place where we can achieve our goals. Dubai enables us to see the world with the eyes of a child, to explore and build our dreams into our realities, and for that I will always be grateful.”

Lacoste and Polaroid Come Together for Colorful Collaboration
What do we get when two iconic brands team up? Lots and lots of color, as shown by the latest launch of Lacoste x Polaroid ‘Let the Color in’ SS21 collection. The collection launched on March 17th, and fans of the brands were treated to the infamous crocodile in the boldest and brightest technicolors of the rainbow in the latest capsule collection. Inspired by Polaroid’s famous rainbow logo, the new collection focuses on the very distinct shades of blue, green, yellow, orange, and red from the brand of over 70 years. But the coolest piece of all may perhaps be the limited-edition Polaroid 600 instant camera, where our reptilian friend is sitting proud.
IWC Shaffhausen Has Gone Digital With New Smartphone App
IWC Schaffhausen has launched a new smartphone app just in time for the digital Watches and Wonders exhibition. The innovative new app will feature a virtual watch try-on, where customers can try their favorite timepieces by pointing their camera at their wrist. It’s an exciting new venture for the classic horological brand as it ushers in a new era connecting brand with consumer.
“For IWC, technology is never just an end in itself, but always a means to improve our customer’s experience and offer tangible added value. While this year’s Watches and Wonders event will again be held virtually, we wanted to make sure that our partners, clients, and fans will be able to see our novelties on their wrists when we reveal them tomorrow. Recent progress in AR technology has been a game-changer, allowing us to bring our watches to people’s homes virtually”, says Dominic Weir, Chief Digital Officer of IWC Schaffhausen.
