Hilaria Baldwin Slammed on Social Media for Cultural Appropriation
Hilaria Baldwin (or should we say Hillary?) has come under fire for culturally appropriating a Spanish heritage, which she categorically denies. Accusations that actor Alec Baldwin‘s wife had been faking a Spanish accent for 10 years broke on December 21st with crime-investigation worthy examples by Twitter user @lenibriscoe. The chief complaints raised were that although Baldwin claims Spanish heritage and was previously listed as having been born in Spain (to the extent that she was featured and heralded for her success in the magazines Latina and Hola!), she was, in fact, born in Boston to two very American parents. Critics also claim Baldwin led people to believe she immigrated from Spain when she was 19 to go to NYU and occasionally speaks with a Spanish accent in interviews.
Baldwin has since responded on her Instagram and in an interview with the New York Times, saying she did nothing wrong, that she is a product of being raised bilingually by her parents with an appreciation for the Spanish culture, backed by extensive travel in the region, and that she is being attacked for being herself. Her husband has also taken to social media to come to her defense.

Zoe Kravitz Files for Divorce After Less Than Two Years of Marriage
Actress and singer, Zoë Kravitz, has filed for divorce from her husband of 19 months, Karl Gusman. Yesterday, Kravitz’s Instagram stories had a distinct image of a drag queen taking out the trash labeled, “people, places, and things that no longer serve my greatest and highest good” just as news of the split started to reach media outlets and was confirmed by the Big Little Lies actress’ rep. Reportedly, Gusman was served divorce papers two days before Christmas. The couple married in a private ceremony in May 2019, and held a star-studded fest at her father Lenny Kravitz‘s home in France in June 2019.
Harry and Meghan Launch Archewell in a Moving Tribute to Their Mothers
On December 31st, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle launched the online platform for Archewell, the non-profit organization founded by the Duke and Duchess after their exit from the British royal family. The homepage features a picture of the young prince with his mother, Princess Diana, and another image of a young Markle with her own mother, Doria Ragland, along with a letter for 2021 penned by the Sussexes themselves.
“I am my mother’s son” Harry writes, and “I am our son’s mother” responds Markle. They continue on to say, “We believe in the best of humanity. Because we have seen the best of humanity. We have experienced compassion and kindness, from our mothers and strangers alike. In the face of fear, struggle, and pain, it can be easy to lose sight of this. Together, we can choose courage, healing, and connection. Together, we can choose to put compassion in action.”
Archewell will operate under three different arms: Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio, and Archewell Productions.

As per his last wishes, Cardin was buried with a sword he designed himself. JLo Rings in the New Year with the Most Appropriate Performance to End 2020
The once-crowded streets of New York City looked a little different this New Year’s Eve before the ball dropped and put an end to the misery of 2020. Celebrity performers like Pitbull, Machine Gun Kelly, Gloria Gaynor, Cyndi Lauper, Anitta, and Billy Porter took to the stage to perform to empty streets with only a few invited essential workers to witness the annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve. But in the last minutes of 2020, Jennifer Lopez emerged and brought closure and hope in a bedazzled suit. Most notable was her touching message about how we’ve lost too many people in 2020 to take any moments for granted in 2021, and her rendition of Aerosmith‘s Dream On had us on our feet and singing out the lyrics with her:
“Sing with me, sing for the year / Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears / Sing with me if just for today / Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away.”
Aveda Goes 100% Vegan
Aveda, the plant-based hair-care brand with a reputation and mission for being ecologically minded and cruelty-free since its inception, has confirmed that as of January 1, 2021, it has gone 100% vegan, accomplishing a longtime goal in line with its care and sustainability mission.
Aveda was already predominantly vegan, except for a few products which still used honey, beeswax, and beeswax-derived ingredients. Replacing the honey and beeswax ingredients was extremely difficult as they relied on it for signature elements like texture, structure, as well as scent, and the most common substitution is synthetic beeswax. But because of Aveda’s commitment to using only naturally-derived ingredients, it took some time until they could develop their own blend of plant-based butters and waxes without sacrificing the quality Aveda’s customers have come to appreciate.
