Dubai is like Disneyland for adults (and kids too), but it can be overwhelming and time-consuming to filter through everything our gorgeous city has to offer on the weekends. Let’s be honest, after you’ve worked all week long, the last thing you want to do is waste your precious R&R time sifting through offers and websites. Sometimes, you miss the best events because it takes too long to find them.
Savoir Flair is here to help start your weekend off on the right note. We are giving you our favorite picks for what you should be doing this weekend in Dubai. So whether it’s a much-needed day at the beach, a well-deserved spa treatment, or a day of adventure, you have never felt more on holiday than you will in Dubai this weekend.
Catch Anne Marie, Clean Bandit, and Yasmin Green Opening DSF
The Dubai Shopping Festival is finally upon us! We all love to shop, but even more than that, we love an entertaining evening, and DSF is providing just that this Friday, December 18th. International pop star, Anne Marie, known for “Ciao Adios,” “Alarm,” and “Friends”, joins with Clean Bandit – whom she collaborated with on the hit single “Rockabye” – and Yasmin Green for an evening of music and fun. “I am so excited to come back and perform at the Dubai Shopping Festival,” says Anne Marie. “I always have a great time when I’ve visited in the past and I’m really looking forward to returning to Dubai!”
The show starts at 5:30pm at Burj Park in Downtown Dubai. Tickets are AED50 and can be purchased at Dubai Calendar.
Enjoy and Outdoor Movie Night
Now that the weather is delicious, everything is happening outdoors, including movie nights. You can catch The Polar Express (December 17), Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (December 18), and Klaus (December 19) this weekend at Souk Madinat Jumeirah, shown outdoors at its amphitheater now adorned with comfortable bean bags. Be sure to dress warm for a breezy night, and you might as well arrive early so you can enjoy the Christmas market and festive spirit decked through the halls and around the gardens of the Souk.
Cinema Akil is also screening the beloved Christmas classic Home Alone this weekend on the 18th and 19th in the Yard in Alserkal Avenue. As it’s the last weekend for the ‘What The Food’ festival in the lanes, you may want to show up early so you can enjoy some street food, music, Shakespeare, and art before taking in the outdoor movie.
Get in the Holiday Spirit at a Christmas Market
Christmas is next week. Let that sink in. It’s okay. We can wait. It’s finally time to leave your desk, get out, buy the last-minute presents, and start doing all the festive things that only come around one time a year. Pick one of these fabulous Christmas markets and head over for some hot chocolate or some mulled wine, a bit of ice skating and snow, more gingerbread houses and gingerbread men than you can catch, and of course, a chance for a photo op with the Big Man himself. You’re never too old to enjoy the fun and frivolity of the most wonderful time of the year, and Dubai does not disappoint. It may not be Germany, but we certainly know how to do a Christmas Market.
Take In a History of Hip-Hop Exhibition in Photographs
In its first stop outside of the United States, CONTACT HIGH, a photographic journey through the last four decades of hip-hop — featuring artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, MF Doom, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Aaliyah, A$AP Rocky, Tyler the Creator, Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, and the legendary Notorious B.I.G. — will reach Abu Dhabi this weekend. The fact that Abu Dhabi is the first international stop proves just how important the hip-hop genre is to the fans here in the Middle East. The exhibition begins this weekend at Manarat Al Saadiyat and runs through May 2021 in partnership with the region’s leading cultural and lifestyle platform, Sole.
