Biden Elected President and (Surprise, Surprise) Trump Still Hasn't Conceded

After a long wait, poll workers in the US have finally tallied all of the votes for last week’s presidential election, declaring Joe Biden and Kamala Harris the next President and Vice President of the United States. It’s a historic election in many ways. Not just because of the 74 million record-breaking American voters who turned out to make their voice heard, or the fact that Biden will be the oldest president ever elected to office, but also because Harris, the daughter of two immigrant parents, marks the first female vice president, the first black vice president, and the first Asian American vice president in the United States.

When results were announced, Americans across the US and abroad took to the streets, Twitter, and Instagram to celebrate a new era in American politics, and eagerly cheered on their new leaders as they gave their moving speeches. Congratulations reigned in from prominent members of both parties like former president Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, former president George W. Bush, and Mitt Romney to name a few.

One name that stood out as having remained silent is the current sitting president, himself. Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump has not yet given a concession speech – a speech which has become customary for the losing candidate to address their voters, reiterate the importance of the democratic process, and urge unity between parties now that the fight is over. Instead, the sitting president took to Twitter to announce his opinions that he won the election and that there has been voter fraud – an opinion of which there is no substantial evidence (and therefore making platforms such as Twitter block most of his tweets. The vote in Georgia is already going to a recount given how close it was, but Trump also threatens to embark on legal proceedings, which means the U.S. Supreme Court will most likely be called upon to declare the final victor.

I could not be prouder to congratulate our next President, Joe Biden, and our next First Lady, Jill Biden. I also couldn’t be prouder to congratulate Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff for Kamala’s groundbreaking election as our next Vice President. In this election, under circumstances never experienced, Americans turned out in numbers never seen. And once every vote is counted, President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris will have won a historic and decisive victory. We’re fortunate that Joe’s got what it takes to be President and already carries himself that way. Because when he walks into the White House in January, he’ll face a series of extraordinary challenges no incoming President ever has – a raging pandemic, an unequal economy and justice system, a democracy at risk, and a climate in peril. I know he’ll do the job with the best interests of every American at heart, whether or not he had their vote. So I encourage every American to give him a chance and lend him your support. The election results at every level show that the country remains deeply and bitterly divided. It will be up to not just Joe and Kamala, but each of us, to do our part – to reach out beyond our comfort zone, to listen to others, to lower the temperature and find some common ground from which to move forward, all of us remembering that we are one nation, under God. Finally, I want to thank everyone who worked, organized, and volunteered for the Biden campaign, every American who got involved in their own way, and everybody who voted for the first time. Your efforts made a difference. Enjoy this moment. Then stay engaged. I know it can be exhausting. But for this democracy to endure, it requires our active citizenship and sustained focus on the issues – not just in an election season, but all the days in between. Our democracy needs all of us more than ever. And Michelle and I look forward to supporting our next President and First Lady however we can.

Big Changes to UAE Laws Mark Progress for the Country

The UAE announced yesterday a huge overhaul of personal and family laws that govern its residents. Major changes include the decriminalization of unmarried co-habitating couples, suicide attempts, and alcohol consumption. The changes also declare that a person’s citizenship will now dictate rulings on inheritance, and divorces will now be held to the laws of the country in which the marriage took place. Sexual harassment will also be treated more harshly, including the death penalty for rape of a minor or a person with limited mental capacity, so-called ‘honor killings’ will now be treated as murder, and a translator will now be required during court proceedings for anyone who does not speak Arabic.

Prince William Confirms He Had COVID-19 Back in April

We were aware that Prince Charles had contracted COVID-19 this past March, however, in a statement last week, it was revealed that Prince William had also tested positive for the virus in April, believed to be around the same time as his father, but he kept the news under wraps in an effort to avoid alarming the nation, or as he put it: “there were important things going on and I didn’t want to worry anyone.”

Prince William followed all of the government guidelines for quarantine by isolating himself in the family’s home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, and was treated by palace doctors. While Prince Charles said he feels to have “gotten off rather lightly”, it is reported that at one point Prince William was having difficulty breathing and admitted to a delay in recovering his sense of taste and smell. Neither the Duchess of Cambridge, nor their three children, tested positive for the virus, and the Duke continued with his duties virtually without alarming the public.

Apparently, Everyone in the Entire World Has Watched Baby Shark

“Baby Shark doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo…” We’re pretty sure every single person in the entire world must have watched the infamous Korean hit by Pink Fong because Baby Shark hit over seven billion views this week, making it the number one most watched Youtube video of all time. Previously, Despacito by Luis Fonsi was the most viewed, with 7,044,968,609 views; however, the little baby shark that could claimed 7,080,887,282 and surpassed the Puerto Rican pop star on November 2nd.

The repetitive song about a baby shark and his family has become a pop culture sensation that no one can really explain. We only know that every single child in the world loves the song, and it is a parent’s best friend when they have an uncontrollable, screaming toddler. Until it’s not. We just hope those kids in the video are getting some massive royalties.

(Now it’s stuck in your head, right?)

Britney Spears Responds to 'Free Britney' Fans

If you’ve been following the #freebritney movement, then you are no stranger to the fight that fans of Britney Spears are putting up on social media to help Spears regain control of her own estate and personage – a battle she has been fighting for years against her father, who currently has control. The #freebritney movement claims that there is something off in the images and videos she posts, that she is wearing the same clothes and thus they can’t be certain it’s not just someone controlling her account with a few photos they have of her, and that any photos of her out with her boyfriend are either photoshopped or used with a body double as her face is not clearly seen.

This week, it appears that Britney has read the comments from concerned fans on her Instagram page and has decided to post a video to calm her fans explaining that she is absolutely fine and has never been happier.

However, the video was not met with the intended appeasements, as fans began to claim even louder that something is definitely not right and that the pop star is being told what to do and say, in addition to being under house arrest with no access to any of the millions of dollars that she has earned in her career.

Meet Sethunya, the 549-Carat Diamond Acquired by Louis Vuitton

‘Sethunya’, the 549-ct and exceptional rough diamond recently discovered at the Karowe mine in Bostwana, has just been obtained and brought into the family by Louis Vuitton. The Karowe mine is well-known for its abundance of quality diamonds, and Sethunya (meaning ‘flower’ in the Setswana language) was given the name by Louis Vuitton as a nod to the house’s monogram flower. The rare find was discovered around the same location as Sewelô, and is the seventh-largest diamond found in that mine.

The diamond has been analyzed by partners in HB Antwerp, and has been given a D-Flawless Grade for its extraordinary clarity. Louis Vuitton has confirmed that its is considering either two Louis Vuitton Cut diamonds of 100 carats each, plus satellites of 5 to 10 carats, or a 200-carat diamond (classical shape) plus satellites of 5 to 10 carats. Merry Christmas, someone.

Abu Dhabi Gets a Touch of Paris at the New Maison Chaumet

The Galleria Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi has just been given a touch of Paris with the opening of the new Maison Chaumet boutique. With the Maison’s latest jewelry creations now available at the exclusive address, visitors are able to discover more pieces from the beloved collections such as Joséphine, Liens, and Bee My Love.

The boutique itself was inspired by the essence of a Parisian hotel in the 18th century, while also highlighting Chaumet’s iconic symbols and color, like the tiara, wheat, and a hue of deep blue. The French joie de vivre is alive and well in Abu Dhabi and one location we are looking forward to visiting for that sense of nostalgia, sophistication, and luxury that Paris always offers.

Park relays the idea that what motivates you, where your dreams lie, and what drives you can all be found in your ‘park.’ The new collection features pieces that are at once fearless, functional, and stylish. With an offering of sizes up to 4x in several styles, it is also markedly inclusive and welcoming.
