“What do you wish for all children?” That was the question that was posed to the attendees of last night’s ‘B. for Beirut’ dinner hosted by three-star Michelin chef Niko Romito, in an intimate gathering at his restaurant Il Ristorante – Niko Romito located in the Bvlgari Hotel and Resort Dubai, along with 25 friends of the brand.
It has been two long months since the horrific and tragic explosions rocked the city of an already-broken Beirut to the core. As they have struggled to pick up the pieces of their lives, shattered not just by negligence, but by the ongoing economic crisis in Lebanon and the devastations of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Bvlgari has stepped up in a collaboration with their long-time partner, Save The Children, to offer relief, aid, education, and support in whatever way they can.
Romito is no stranger to Save The Children as he has partnered with the charity for over three years now. In 2017, he took a trip to Bolivia for another collaboration with Bvlgari and Save the Children with an idea to teach children to bake bread. “Bread is humble. The ingredients are simple and can be found everywhere in the world. You can go anywhere and find what you need to make bread. And it is the foundation of a meal. It is the heart,” says Romito during an exclusive conversation with him after the event. And even so, Romito says that he was the one who returned changed after his trip.
“The poverty and the reality of what conditions these children are living in – it doesn’t hit you until you are there – until you are experiencing it and hearing it being told to you by these children,” he explains. But even as the sadness set in, Romito remembered that it was these same children, who have so little, that were the ones whose hope, dreams, and positivity overcame every emotion and left him filled with joy, happiness, peace, and hope for the future – hope for the future of these children specifically.
It is from this place that Romito’s passion springs up as he prepared the first dinner to raise awareness and funds from people who have much for the most vulnerable in our world. It’s a passion that urges him to press on, helping in whatever way he can, and it is this sense of purpose and calling that propel him to continue to find ways to partner with Save the Children. Because it’s about each child knowing and realizing that they have a hope and a future.
Starting from today until November 19th, Bvlgari Hotel and Resort Dubai will allocate a part of the revenues generated over the following two weeks at Il Ristorante – Niko Romito to Save the Children Lebanon. Additionally, Bvlgari will be donating funds to the charity and inviting the public to partner with them and donate as well.
So, now we ask you? “What do you wish for all children?” Is it freedom? Hope? Dreams? A Home? Safety? Food? Yes. Us too.
