Vegetarians are an incredibly disciplined group of people who have made the choice to consume only meat-free fare. Whether that decision was born from a moral obligation to stop cruelty towards animals, health concerns, or a personal preference in taste, choosing a plant-based lifestyle is not always easy. But these 20 celebrities make it look so good, we are tempted to ditch the meat in favor of more vegetables.

In honor of World Vegetarian Day, here are 20 female vegetarian celebrities. Some you knew, some you may not have known, and some have even made the switch to being full vegan. We wish all of these strong women a happy World Vegetarian Day. Broccoli never looked so good.


Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has been a vegetarian since childhood because of her love for animals. The singer says, “I love animals more than I love most people, not kidding. But I am a firm believer in eating a full plant-based, whole food diet that can expand your life length and make you an all-round happier person.”


Kat Von D

Kat Von D Beauty founder, Kat Von D, was a vegetarian for many years before switching to being a vegan after watching the harrowing documentary Forks Over Knives. Her cosmetics company also switched to completely vegan formulas.



Madonna has been a vegetarian for quite some time. Actually, she eats a strict vegan diet and exercises regularly to maintain her youth and glow.



The enigmatic singer, Sia, announced on Twitter that she was a vegetarian in 2010 and four years later made the switch to being a vegan.


Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell has been a vegetarian since she was a child because she has never liked the taste or smell of meat. Fair enough.

Lily Aldridge

Lily Aldridge is one of many Victoria’s Secret models who have turned to vegetarianism, and she emphatically states that a plant-based diet helps her to feel healthier and have more energy.


Maggie Q

Maggie Q has been a fully-committed vegetarian for almost a lifetime. She is so committed that she even went nude for a PETA advertisement.


Miley Cyrus

After the death of her dog, Floyd, in 2014, Miley Cyrus cut out all animal products from her diet and remains an active advocate on her Instagram for an animal-cruelty free lifestyle.


Natalie Portman

Maybe one of the most famous celebrity vegetarians out there, Natalie Portman narrated and produced a documentary called Eating Animals, which investigates the practices of farms, companies, and people who raise animals for our food.

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore is a long-time vegetarian and her cosmetic companyFlower Beauty, is 100% cruelty-free as well. In fact, during filming for her new Netflix series, The Santa Clarita Diet, where Barrymore’s character (rather ironically) has cannibalistic tendencies, the actress refused to allow real meat on set.


Jessica Chastain

Awarded ‘Sexiest Vegetarian of the Year’ in 2012, Jessica Chastain has been avoiding meat products for 28 years. That’s longer than most Hollywood marriages.


Kate Winslet

She may have started as an omnivore, but Kate Winslet decided to go herbivore in her adult life. An active advocate for PETA, she is also vocal about boycotting restaurants that serve foie gras, a delicacy made from the liver of an over-fed duck or goose.

Shania Twain

The country music singer, Shania Twain, credits all those green vegetables for keeping up her youthful appearance and her anti-aging secret. That does impress us much.


Gisele Bündchen

Brazilian supermodel, Gisele Bündchen, switched to vegetarianism for environmental reasons. She believes that eating clean can have a positive impact in the fight against climate change. She even persuaded her NFL star of a husband, Tom Brady, to give up meat. But, honestly, who wouldn’t give up meat or do really anything for Bündchen? We would.

Ellen Page

PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2014, Ellen Page, often takes to her social media to raise awareness and talk about the benefits of being a vegetarian.


Erykah Badu

This singer-songwriter has been a vegetarian since high school. Erykah Badu described the choice, saying, “The lifestyle that vegetarians lead automatically draws people’s attention to the vitality of the person. My vitality speaks for itself.” Indeed.


Venus Williams

Venus Williams is actually an advocate for being vegan, however, because of an autoimmune disease, she cannot fully commit to that lifestyle. She does, however, follow a plant-based diet, and claims that it helps her overall health and stability.


Serena Williams

The other tennis playing Williams, Serena Williams, has an on-again/off-again relationship with meat. While training and competing, the 23-time Grand Slam champion follows mostly a plant-based diet. In the off-season though, she will eat protein and have a few cheat days. However, when she was breastfeeding her daughter, she went vegan.


Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde probably can’t even remember a time she ate meat as she has been a vegan since she was 12. In an interview with Huffington Post, Wilde said, “[Being vegan] is not always easy and accessible, but it’s a way of life and makes me as a person feel really good and physically look better.” She also said in the interview that because of her strong support system, she has been able to sustain her vegan lifestyle, and it’s absolutely essential for anyone trying to make the switch.

Betty White

Betty White claims that she could never eat an animal, who she considers her best friends. A great lover of animals, White also claims that cutting out meat keeps her looking youthful.
