Dubai is like Disneyland for adults (and kids too). But it can be overwhelming and time-consuming filtering through everything our gorgeous city has to offer to find something to do in Dubai this weekend. And let’s be honest, after you’ve worked hard for the money all week long, the last thing you want to do is waste your precious R&R time sifting through offers and websites. Sometimes, you miss the best events merely because it takes too long to find them.

Well, Savoir Flair is here to help start your weekend off on the right note. We are giving you our favorite picks for what you should be doing this weekend in Dubai. So whether it’s a much-needed day at the beach, a well-deserved spa treatment, or a day of adventure, you have never felt more on holiday than you will in Dubai this weekend.

Have a Picnic in the Desert

What could be more Dubai than heading out to the sand for a whimsical ‘picnic’ at the luxurious Bab Al Shams Resort and Spa? Guests can enjoy Arabian and international delicacies from their many live cooking stations while lounging on a blanket under an umbrella on the green lawn of the hotel’s outdoor restaurant Al Forsan. Take in the beautiful scenery, share a care-free afternoon with friends, and watch while the little ones delight themselves with camel and pony rides. Or, why not? Have a ride yourself. You only live once.

The menu is priced at AED 225 per person (inclusive of soft beverages), kids aged six to 12 years pay 50%, and children below five years dine free. Click here for more information and to make reservations.

Create a Piece of Art

Maybe you have seen the art of paper quilling in decorative shadowboxes and in boutique home decor shops. But now is your chance to learn the basics of the unique craft and create a floral paper quilling piece of art for yourself. From shapes that form the basis of design, to the importance of color selection and combination, this workshop is meant to give a thorough foundation to the art of quilling.

Each participant will receive a full quilling set consisting of quilling tools, a large variety of multi-colored quilling papers and canvas board, which they will keep to use for their own multiple future quilling projects. They will then have the chance to use their newfound knowledge to create their own floral design on a canvas under the guidance of visual artist and instructor, Sahar Abdalla.

The workshop takes place at Âme Artistic Studio in Alserkal Avenue and is only offered this weekend on Saturday, September 26 from 3pm to 6pm. The cost of the workshop is AED500 and is inclusive of all materials.

Due to social distancing regulations, the workshop has limited availability. To secure your space, click here.

Go See Some New and Local Art

Go to Alserkal Avenue, my friend. Just go. It is so good for the soul to be surrounded by the creative and innovative thinkers of Dubai. Relish a cup of artisan coffee brewed to perfection while you listen to the DJ at Nightjar. Grab a craft burger from FOMO, and when you’re done with that, walk through the lanes and see the new exhibits that have just opened during Alserkal Lates. Modern art from local artists abound from warehouse to warehouse. Community-created murals in The Yard and on the walls of the Avenue pay respect to the world-renowned Moroccan artist, Mohamed Melehi, in addition to a curation of his works at Concrete. Go to Alserkal Avenue and be inspired.

Alserkal Lates is open Saturday to Thursday from 10am to 7pm.

Catch a New Blockbuster (Finally!)

It feels so simple and ordinary, and yet, it has been ages since we have been to the movie theater to see the latest blockbuster. After movies were delayed due to COVID-19, we are finally seeing the highly-anticipated new releases hit the theaters here in Dubai.

Catch Disney‘s latest live-action film, Mulan — about the young Chinese warrior who defies tradition in order to save her country — at The Roxy this weekend. Or, if you go in for more cerebral cinema, Christopher Nolan (who directed the mind-bending film Inception) has brought us a new film of mental gymnastics with Tenet that we have been waiting for for over a year. And for an extra gift to celebrate the return of the movies, do it in style with Platinum Plus. It will not disappoint.
