It’s time to hit the road, Jack, because Dubai’s classic cars are about to have a retro makeover.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that from November, cars more than 30 years old and that meet all technical requirements will be able to be fitted with a new license plate designed to replicate the style of the 1980s.
The plates have been given an elegant upgrade from the standard brown to a more sophisticated yellow and white combination. The words ‘Dubai’ and ‘Classic’ — written in both Arabic and English — will appear on the yellow background, while the number will appear on the right, and will be easily read from a distance.
“The new design meets all the required technical standards. The plates have a touch of luxury and feature innovative digital printing. Moreover, they are not affected by different climate conditions,” says Mattar Al Tayer, director general of RTA.
Persons interested in applying for the new license plates can do so by submitting a request through RTA’s website or their Customer Happiness Centre in Deira.
