We are all still reeling from shock after the devastating blast that tore through Beirut, leaving thousands injured with a rising death toll every day. We cannot fathom the pain and loss so many of our dear friends, colleagues, neighbors, and fellow human beings are experiencing in the wake of this tragedy, but we can help. The UAE government has been amongst one of the first to respond and send aid to our neighbors in need in Lebanon.

Savoir Flair has compiled a comprehensive list of trustworthy and transparent organizations with whom you can safely partner with and donate aid to help those in Beirut. We will continue to update this list as we become aware of more organizations that have been safely vetted. Please continue to check back for updates.

Emirates Red Crescent

Emirates Red Crescent is working closely with the Lebanese Red Cross to accept monetary and material donations to send to Beirut on their behalf. You can make a monetary donation here. You can also donate directly to the Lebanese Red Cross via their website here.

You can also drop off physical items to their Garhoud location, to be sent to Lebanon on Tuesday, August 11th. Please see below for the list of items requested.

It is a transparent organization that offers routine updates on where it is allocating its donations and which NGOs are receiving aid from its disaster-relief fundraiser for the Beirut explosion. So far, the organization has sent proceeds to the Lebanese Red Cross, Arcenciel (an organization devoted to supporting the social and economic integration of marginalized people back into society), and Beit el Baraka (creating sustainable programs in which to continue providing food for the elderly).

At Impact Lebanon, we are committed to upholding values of transparency and integrity. It is important to us that you are kept informed on how we go about transferring the donations you have trustingly placed in our hands. – In this post, we will be detailing the steps to transfer your donations to the qualifying NGOs once they have passed our thorough vetting process (which you can read about in yesterday’s post). – To guarantee smooth money transfers during the severe economic crisis in Lebanon, we have partnered with BLA (British Lebanese Association) and LIFE (Lebanese International Finance Executives), which are both trusted, registered charities with bank accounts both in the UK and in Lebanon. – After deciding on the donation amount based on close examination of the NGO’s initiatives, we make a request for the funds to be quickly released from the JustGiving platform onto the UK bank accounts of one of our partners. BLA or LIFE then transfer the money seamlessly from their UK bank accounts to their own Lebanese bank accounts. Once the money is in Lebanon, BLA or LIFE will disperse the money to the beneficiary NGOs. – These transfers qualify as fresh money and therefore can be withdrawn from the Lebanese banks without any problems. – Our team has been working relentlessly to ensure that your donations will make the biggest impact possible on the ground and we are confident that this will be achieved. – #impactlebanon #lebanesediaspora #diaspora #connecting #lebanon #impact #fundraising #beirutexplosion #prayforbeirut #relief

World Food Programme

The World Food Programme (WFP) has already been working in overdrive to feed those ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic, but it has also made a statement saying it is working closely with the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot to support Beirut as well. The organization plans to support with emergency food assistance as well as create programs like irrigation, stormwater drainage canals, fruit and vegetable markets, and key roads aimed at rebuilding the agricultural sector in Beirut.

You can donate directly to WFP here.

Children's Cancer Center Lebanon

The Children’s Cancer Center Lebanon was affected by the Beirut explosion and has set up a rescue fund for the children they are currently treating with cancer. This fund will enable the hospital to continue treating its vulnerable and young patients despite financial strain, and will also help them rebuild as their center was seriously damaged.
