Actor Naya Rivera is Pronounced Missing
Naya Rivera, who rose to fame as Santana Lopez in Fox’s hit show Glee, is presumed dead after she went missing on July 8. After renting a pontoon boat to take her four-year-old son out for an excursion on California’s Lake Piru, the young boy was found alone and asleep in the boat with his mother nowhere to be found. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office sprung into action, and began combing the lake and surrounding area with an 80-person team to find Rivera. The lake bottom has low visibility, and reaches depths of over 12 meters, so advanced sounding equipment has yet to turn up any evidence. Social media flooded with messages from friends and colleagues, praying for her safe return.
Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith Open Up About Marriage Troubles
Jada Pinkett-Smith launched Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch in 2018 with her daughter Willow Smith and mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris. Since its debut, the web show has hosted revealing talks on mental health, social pressure, and other serious topics with guest stars like Gabrielle Union, Tiffany Haddish, and Jordyn Woods.
Last week, Pinkett-Smith’s guest was her husband Will Smith, who “turned the tables” by discussing their marriage. Four years ago, the couple secretly separated, and in that time Pinkett-Smith became “entangled” with singer August Alsina. The couple’s Red Table Talk quickly went viral, as the Internet was given a radically intimate look at the private relationship between a very public couple. The two have since reconciled since their initial split, and claim that their marriage is stronger than ever because of open, honest communication. They concluded the session by fist-bumping and joining in a slightly altered quote from Bad Boys, “We ride together. We die together. Bad marriage for life”.

Nadine Labaki Debuts New Short Film on Netflix
Oscar-nominated director Nadine Labaki has joined an all-star list of filmmakers for a new Netflix series called Homemade. Directors like Rachel Morrison (Black Panther), Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Labaki contributed short films to the series, which were all created while in quarantine.
As the region’s foremost female filmmaker, Labaki tasked herself with imagining the perspective of a child as they navigate the confusing world of lockdown. “This question has been tormenting us as parents for a while: How are our children perceiving or living the confinement? What goes on in their minds?” Labaki shared in a press statement. Her Homemade short film tells the tale of a little girl named Mayroun. On day 57 of confinement, Mayroun enters her father’s office in Beirut, and improvises the scene without any intervention. You can watch Labaki’s short film for the Netflix Homemade series here.
Purificacion Garcia Collaborates With Nora Al Shaikh
Spanish fashion house Purificación Garcia and Saudi designer Nora Al Shaikh have teamed up for a special abaya collection inspired by the brand’s iconic handbags. In recent years, Purificación Garcia has put significant emphasis on supporting regional talent in the Middle East, and this unique collaboration is one of its most exemplary associations. Fusing Al Shaikh’s Saudi heritage with a global perspective, the abaya collection blends fashion and function, with each design created with a Purificación Garcia bag as its template.
“As a Saudi designer, it was both challenging and fun to conceive a capsule abaya collection based on PG’s signature handbags such as the ‘360’, ‘Homanaje Alcolchado’, and ‘Primera Cita’,” Al Shaikh shared in an exclusive interview to Savoir Flair. “It was an opportunity to take a magnifying glass and study their contrasting materials that are meticulously folded and stitched to create reliefs and shadows. It is a minimalist approach to design that has always spoken to me and I wanted to compliment each handbag with a collection of streamlined abayas featuring shadow play, elevated surface treatments, and graphic color combinations.
View the Purificación Garcia x Nora Al Shaikh collaboration below, and find the collection in stores at the end of July at Mall of Arabia, Red Sea Mall, Al Nakheel Mall, Hamra Mall, and Riyadh Park.
