The world is a scary place right now. As news of the coronavirus pandemic continues to crash through your screens all day long, we know it can be a lot to keep up with. In this special edition of Extra Extra, we’re bringing you news regarding COVID-19 from the worlds of fashion, beauty, and pop culture alongside updates that have nothing to do with our new normal.


Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik Are Expecting

Internet sleuths quickly deduced that Gigi Hadid’s recent birthday posts also doubled as a pregnancy announcement. In the background of one snap posted by her sister Bella Hadid, a gift bag was masked behind a sunflower emoji, but clever online detectives soon realized that it bore the greeting, “Hello, Little One”.

Soon, social media caught fire with the news that the supermodel and her partner Zayn Malik were expecting way before the couple had officially announced the pregnancy. All of that digging actually added up to something, with the couple confirming that they were indeed expecting their first child – a little girl – who is due later this year.

Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor Pass Away

Irrfan Khan, one of the great icons of Indian cinema who starred in Hollywood films like Slumdog Millionaire, Jurassic World, and Life of Pi, was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor in 2018. He passed away last week at the age of 53, leaving a huge void in the film scene.

In other tragic news, veteran actor and giant of the Bollywood screen Rishi Kapoor passed away from cancer a day later. An outpouring of grief and memories of the beloved actors flooded social media, with celebrities like Priyanka Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan sharing their tributes.


'A Moment with the Met' Fills Met Gala Void

Although the 2020 Met Gala event and corresponding exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art have been postponed until further notice, there is still an opportunity to witness a glamorous virtual version. A Moment with the Met will be live streamed on YouTube on Monday, May 4, featuring guests like Cardi B and Naomi Campbell, a musical performance by Florence Welch of Florence and the Machines, and a live DJ set by designer Virgil Abloh.


Lea Michele Announces Pregnancy

Lea Michele, singer and actress of Glee fame, took to Instagram to announce her pregnancy last week, posing barefoot in a lovely blue dress with the caption, “So grateful.” Michele has been married to Zandy Reich for one year, and the young couple is reportedly overjoyed at the news that they are expecting.

Jenji Koha to Launch 'Social Distance' Anthology Series

Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan is now focusing her attention on a new quarantine-themed series for Netflix called Social Distance. Due to production restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the writers, crew, and cast came together remotely to bring the project to life. There is no release date attached to the project yet, but its unique approach is sure to make it one of the most anticipated Netflix shows of 2020.

Madonna Tests Positive for COVID-19 Antibodies

Madonna has been regularly updating her followers on Instagram via a series she calls Quarantine Diaries. Her latest installment included the surprising news that she has tested positive for the presence of COVID-19 antibodies, and that her (somewhat bizarre) plans were to take a long drive and “breathe in the COVID-19 air”. However, medical authorities have not yet confirmed whether the presence of antibodies equates to immunity.

For the campaign, Valentino is tapping friends like Laura Dern, Adut Akech, and Naomi Campbell, all of whom will be shot wearing the collection inside their homes. Piccioli wanted to meet people where they were and, instead of being paid to participate in the campaign, the subjects are grouping together to donate one million euros to a hospital in Rome that is a hub for fighting the COVID-19 virus.
