After a flurry of engagements, 2020 is set to be a busy year for celebrity nuptials. From Hollywood A-listers to British royals, we can expect some extravagant wedding ceremonies – and epic bridal gowns, of course. But will these leading ladies play it safe on their big day and choose a fashion designer they’ve often worked with or surprise us with a left-field choice? We look ahead to who’s tying the knot next year and predict the designers they’ll choose for their walk down the aisle.
Jennifer Lopez
In March, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced their engagement after the American baseballer proposed during a romantic getaway in the Bahamas. As a bona fide fashion icon, we’re expecting something spectacular from JLo’s fourth wedding, but will she opt for an ultra-glam custom gown from favorite designer Versace or something a bit more understated? We think Lopez will go for a timeless dress from a US-based designer like Oscar de la Renta or Reem Acra, both brands she has worn for many a red carpet.

Princess Beatrice
In September this year, it was announced that Princess Beatrice was engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi after a summer proposal in Italy, and that the wedding would likely take place in 2020. As a member of the British royal family, Beatrice is sure to choose a homegrown designer for the occasion, but she won’t want to draw comparisons to Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle, and younger sister Princess Eugenie – so that probably rules out Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, and Peter Pilotto. A designer like Emilia Wickstead, who specializes in bridal gowns that marry drama and simplicity, would be a beautiful choice for Beatrice.

Katy Perry
Actor Orlando Bloom chose Valentine’s Day to pop the question to singer Katy Perry in an epic proposal that started with a helicopter ride and ended with a party attended by the couple’s family and friends. Pop icon Perry is known for her zany on-stage style, so we wouldn’t be entirely surprised if she commissioned BFF Jeremy Scott of Moschino to design a fabulously flamboyant gown. But, in reality, we think she’ll choose the likes of Dior or Valentino to create a wedding dress that’s classic with a twist.

Scarlett Johansson
After two years of dating, actress Scarlett Johansson and comedian Colin Jost, who met on the set of Saturday Night Live, got engaged in May. On the red carpet, Johansson is a fan of glittering, form-fitting gowns, so we could imagine her in a stunning creation from Elie Saab’s bridal atelier.

Emma Stone
Another romance that’s the product of Saturday Night Live, actress Emma Stone and producer Dave McCary reportedly met when she hosted the comedy show in 2016, and the pair announced their engagement earlier this month. As the face of Louis Vuitton perfume and a long-time friend of the brand, we imagine Stone will be drafting in creative director Nicolas Ghesquière to create a modern bridal gown.
Elizabeth Olsen
Younger sister of the Olsen twins, actress Elizabeth Olsen became engaged to musician Robbie Arnett in the summer. Will the 30-year-old ask her siblings to create a bridal gown? The pair are certainly used to designing all-white looks, but their pared-back aesthetic may be a bit too severe for a wedding dress. If she is looking for something a bit more dramatic, Olsen might choose a brand like Alexander McQueen, which she has donned for red carpet appearances in the past.
