“Traffic” – just about the most sensible justification to spending New Year’s Eve on your sofa, pizza and Netflix at hand. But with the start of a new decade – and the end of a year that was kind to nobody – we suggest ringing in 2020 by doing something unique and far enough from the city center to avoid clogged roads. Here are four ideas to consider – conformists need not apply.

1

Sonara Camp

Starlit Celebrations

Eco-friendly, a zero-waste policy, and fusion cuisine enjoyed under the stars in the midst of the beautiful Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, home to hundreds of oryxes and gazelles – everything about ringing in the new year at Sonara Camp sounds appealing. The team here has created a special menu for the occasion, which will be accented with curated entertainment and even a 30-minute camel ride (if you’re up for a little fun).

Lotus 220

Ultra-Luxe Extras

In true Dubai fashion, a luxurious mega yacht by the name of Lotus – one of the biggest commercial mega yachts in the world and the biggest in the UAE – will be hosting a bash for New Year’s Eve, complete with a sprawling buffet, live cooking stations, premium beverages, international DJs, multiple decks worth of entertainment, and even a 500-square-foot swimming board. Even better? You’ll sail around, taking in unrivaled (read: unobstructed) views of the fireworks at JBR, Palm Jumeirah, and Bluewaters Island.

Global Village

Old-Fashioned Fun

Street food, extreme rides, arcade games, affordable impulse purchases, family-friendly attractions, the recently opened Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium, and performances by likes of African Footprint and Crazy Clowns – all accented with mega displays of fireworks – is New Year’s Eve at Global Village in a nutshell. Part theme park/part al fresco market, this is old-fashioned fun at its finest.

Longbeach Campground

Something for Everyone

Longbeach Campground, the only leisure camp in Ras Al Khaimah, will cater to everyone in the family on New Year’s Eve. You’ll fuel up with a barbecue dinner, party at the beach bar, and bid farewell to 2019 with DJs and live music. And if you’re bringing kids in tow, dedicated food stations and a magic show translates to more “me time” for you. We suggest staying back in one of the cozy tents onsite – you’ll wake up to sea views and activities that will tempt you to linger – think: beach volleyball, kayaking, an infinity pool, an outdoor spa and sauna, and more.
