We get it. We can barely keep up with the onslaught of information ourselves. That being said, it’s our mission to keep readers in the know, which is why we’ve combed through it all, distilled it to its essence, and dispensed it into easily digestible tidbits. Want to be the most knowledgeable culture savant in your group of friends? Then check back every Sunday for what you’ve missed in the world of celebrities and fashion.

Area 51 Gets "Invaded"

It started as a joke. After a guy on Facebook created an event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us”, he could hardly have anticipated the response or the global interest. A whopping 2.1 million people RSVP’d to the “event”, and it became a much-memed phenomenon worldwide.

Fortunately, the actual event – for which many people actually turned up – was a bust. Instead of “storming” the mysterious military base (where it is theorized that aliens are being held captive and experimented on), the people who showed up mostly just hung out and partied with the base guards. It could have gone a lot worse.

Young People Go on Strike for Climate Change

Young people all over the world went on strike on Friday for climate change. Led by 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg, the strikes attracted roughly four million people to protest in the streets globally. Big population centers, like New York City, saw as many as 250,000 participants. “Our house is on fire,” said Thunberg at a rally. “We will not just stand aside and watch.” Experts are saying it is the biggest public gathering on climate change in history.

Amazon Prime Showcases Rihanna's Savage x Fenty Show

“RIP Victoria’s Secret” – at least that’s what many of the critics were saying after Rihanna staged a massive Savage x Fenty show at NYFW, complete with choreographed dance numbers, musical guests, and more. It also happened to be size-, race-, and age-inclusive – key ingredients that her competition has been ignoring for far too long.

While the show happened last week in New York, guests were barred from recording any of the proceedings so that footage wouldn’t leak ahead of Rihanna’s exclusive streaming release on Amazon Prime. The 50-minute film is now available for Amazon Prime customers, of which there are an estimated 100 million in the US alone.
