We get it. We can barely keep up with the onslaught of information ourselves. That being said, it’s our mission to keep readers in the know, which is why we’ve combed through it all, distilled it to its essence, and dispensed it into easily digestible tidbits. Want to be the most knowledgeable culture savant in your group of friends? Then check back every Sunday for what you’ve missed in the world of celebrities and fashion.

Rihanna’s Diamond Ball Honors Shaun King

Rihanna’s fifth annual Diamond Ball, which benefits non-profit organization Clara Lionel Foundation, honored activist Shaun King and the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley. Seth Meyers hosted the star-studded event, with Pharrell Williams and DJ Khaled headlining the festivities. In attendance, we spotted Cardi B in Georges Hobeika, Normani in J’aton Couture, Karlie Kloss in Dior, and woman-of-the-hour Rihanna in a Givenchy Couture gown.

Virgil Abloh Announces He’s Taking Time Off

Virgil Abloh, the designer behind both Off-White and Louis Vuitton Men’s, is taking a break from Paris Fashion Week this season. After a consultation with his doctor, Abloh chose to take a step back from attendance in order to focus on his health and mental well-being.

In a statement to Business of Fashion, Abloh’s team said that he is “shifting gears to a pace less than his usual constant work and travel, for a few months, due to health considerations. He continues to work closely with his teams at Louis Vuitton Men’s and Off-White as well as with brands he collaborates with around the world”. While fashion designer burnout is common in the industry, it’s good to see someone taking a step back before the workload becomes to much, forcing them to quit.

Felicity Huffman Sentenced to 14 Days in Jail

Felicity Huffman of Desperate Housewives fame is one of many celebrities at the center of 2019’s shocking college admissions scandal, which saw famous parents paying into fraudulent activity in order to get their children accepted into the universities of their choices.

Her recent sentencing is an example of what fate other celebrities involved – like Lori Loughlin (Full House) – might soon face. Huffman appeared in federal court last week and was sentenced to 14 days in prison, a year of supervised release, a $30,000 fine, and 250 hours of community service.

Gucci Will be Completely Carbon Neutral by End of September

Not only is Gucci the crown jewel of its parent company Kering, but it’s also one of the most environmentally conscious brands in the luxury realm. Lately, Gucci has been increasingly concerned with the aspect of its production that causes the most environmental damage – the early stages of its supply chain, which account for 90 percent of its overall greenhouse gas emissions.

In order to combat this damage, Gucci will be completely carbon neutral by the end of September. The brand will achieve carbon neutrality – or the act of removing as much carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as it puts into it – by purchasing carbon offsets of credits. Gucci has been instrumental in invoking changes in the fashion industry at large, and we hope to see many more luxury brands following in its footsteps.
