Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Launch Eco-Friendly Travel Program
After working for two years on the project, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently announced the first of Sussex Royal foundation’s eco-friendly travel program, ‘Travalyst’. With the help of Booking.com, SkyScanner, CTrip, TripAdvisor, and Visa, the program will encourage tourists to consider the impact their presence has on the environment and local populations when they travel.
In a statement, Prince Harry said, “As tourism inevitably grows, it is critically important to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices worldwide and to balance this growth with the needs of the environment and the local population. Bringing companies, consumers, and communities together is our best chance to protect destinations and ecosystems for future generations.”
This comes on the heels of a scandal in Britain concerning the couple’s preference for private airplanes when they travel. In defense of private travel decisions, Prince Harry explained, “I spend 99 percent of my life traveling the world by commercial and occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family [is] safe. It’s generally as simple as that…And I’ve always offset my CO2.”
Fashion Photographer Peter Lindbergh Passes Away
Peter Lindbergh, the German photographer behind many of fashion’s most iconic editorial shoots and portraits, passed away last week at the age of 74. Lindbergh was famous for his black and white style, launching the supermodels of the 90s, and allowing the natural beauty of his subjects to shine rather than retouching his photos and erasing imperfections.
He famously once said, “In a time where women are represented in the media and everywhere else as ambassadors of perfection and youth, I thought it was important to remind everyone that there is a different beauty, more real and more truthful, not manipulated by commercial or any other interests, beauty which speaks about individuality, the courage to be yourself, and your very own sensibility.” He will be profoundly missed, not only by those in the fashion industry, but also the media landscape that he impacted with his unique vision and outlook.
Ariana Grande Sues Forever 21
It was just reported that Forever 21 is filing for bankruptcy the same week that news emerged about popstar Ariana Grande suing the fast fashion retail brand for $10 million due to alleged misappropriation. After Grande and Forever 21 were unable to agree to terms on a marketing campaign, Forever 21 went ahead and used 30 images and videos from the campaign that were not approved by Grande’s team.
The brand also used lyrics and music from Grande’s hit single “7 Rings” without the singer’s permission. The lawsuit filed against Forever 21 asks for damages for copyright and trademark infringement, as well as violating her right of publicity. Dana Hourani Debuts New Single
Fashion influencer Dana Hourani has really stepped into her own as a singer, with the release of “Lahza” following her first single “Ella Enta”. Both songs are from her forthcoming EP that is due out in December. “Lahza”, an emotional song that explores the complexities of love, sees Hourani in dynamic motion, dancing and acting.
With lyrics and music by Anthony Khoury, mixing and mastering by Sleiman Damien, and a music video directed by Nadim Hobeika, we see the same team behind “Ellan Enta” supporting Hourani’s emergence as a musical talent. She discussed the meaning behind the song, saying, “Love is rarely ready the first time around. Sometimes we need to fall apart to know what it takes to rebuild a relationship.”
Net-a-Porter Announces Brands for Third Season of The Vanguard
Net-a-Porter has proven to be quite the talent incubator. With the third season of its mentorship program The Vanguard, the luxury online retailer introduces four new and exclusive brands for the Fall/Winter 2019 season: BITE Studios, Le 17 September, Naturae Sacra, and The Sant. The brands were originally scouted via Instagram, with sustainability at the core of Net-a-Porter’s selection process. Now, the four brands tapped for the third season of The Vanguard will receive tremendous business support and guidance from Net-a-Porter.
