How many Instagram followers – and we ask in the nicest way possible – had you accumulated by the time you reached your 53rd post?

A former chemistry teacher in the mountainous northern prefecture of Akita in Japan boasts a staggering 115,000 followers and counting, making him a bona fide Instagram sensation. The 84-year-old has become somewhat of a global style icon owing to his grandson Naoya Kudo, who recently visited home for a week-long holiday and decided to take on the task of dressing him from top to toe. What Kudo couldn’t have anticipated, however, is just how fast the photos of his little family project would go viral.

Both generations clearly have an affinity for the color black, but grandpa clearly has no problem pulling off the trends that many would fear – clashing prints and ugly sneakers included. While we can’t tell you what the captions in the account translate to, we can tell you this: labels like Loewe, Kenzo, Vetements, and Givenchy make regular appearances, making for a stark contrast against the simplicity of rural Japan. Here, we’ve put together a handful of his outfits that we only wish we could pull off, too.
