Since the Aladdin premiere in Paris last week, we’ve been following the cast as they move through cities and reinvent themselves on the red carpet. So when Will Smith, who plays Genie in the film, shared drone footage of the cast at the ruins of the Amman Citadel in Jordan earlier this week, it not only came as a surprise, but also had us feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
Smith, standing alongside Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud – a.k.a. Princess Jasmine and Aladdin – as well as Aladdin director and co-writer Guy Ritchie, shared a heartfelt message to his followers for Ramadan while thanking the royal family of Jordan for their hospitality.
Like us, you might be wondering what exactly brought the cast to the Middle Eastern country in the midst of a press tour. While Jordan may seem like an unusual place for a Hollywood blockbuster to host its regional premiere, Aladdin is actually quite connected to it. Parts of the film were shot in Wadi Rum, which, in addition to being an increasingly popular travel destination, has also become a major movie set location over the years.

For a premiere that epitomizes fantasy and swirls around royalty, it felt only apt that Hussein, Crown Prince of Jordan hosted a private screening. And while we’re pretending that our invites got lost in the mail, the stars luckily took to Instagram – as one does – to offer a glimpse into the moments leading up to the exclusive event.
Scott, who exudes princess vibes IRL, shared a video of herself twirling in a stunning tiered dress by Armani. Her makeup artist Valeria Ferreira has promised to share the details of how Scott’s natural beauty look was created – and we’ll hold her to that.
