We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.
For weeks now, Meghan Markle’s every move has set tongues wagging – be it taking a trip to a wellness boutique in Notting Hill, snubbing Queen Elizabeth’s most trusted doctors in favor of her own delivery team, or choosing vegan paint for the nursery at Frogmore Cottage. But now, she has gone ahead and committed the ultimate act to make headlines worldwide: give birth to a royal baby!
After an Instagram post announced the royal arrival, Prince Harry made a surprise appearance in Windsor to confirm the news and update the world, saying, “I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy earlier this morning, a very healthy boy. Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there. It’s been amazing, so I just wanted to share this with everybody.”
When asked about the baby’s name, he replied, “We’re still thinking about names. The baby’s a little bit overdue so we’ve had a little bit of time to think about it, that’s the next bit. For us, we’ll be seeing you guys in probably two days time as planned as a family.” Details on the little one are still few and far between, but here are three facts that Savoir Flair can reveal so far.
It's a Boy!
Going against the royal tradition of a baby photocall outside the hospital, Meghan and Harry announced that she gave birth to a healthy baby boy through their joint Instagram account.
He Was Born on a Monday
In the announcement, the couple reveal that the baby was born “early this morning” on May 6, weighing a healthy 7lbs 3oz. Royal-baby watchers report that the birth took place a week after Meghan’s due date. The baby is also a dual citizen, having acquired US citizenship from his mother at birth.
He May or May Not Be a Prince
With the world watching and waiting for Queen Elizabeth’s decision on whether the baby will or will not be a prince, experts on the matter suggest that his name will be traditional – with Albert, Arthur, and James beating the odds.
