We get it. We can barely keep up with the onslaught of information ourselves. That being said, it’s our mission to keep readers in the know, which is why we’ve combed through it all, distilled it to its essence, and dispensed it into easily digestible tidbits. Want to be the most knowledgeable culture savant in your group of friends? Then check back every Sunday for what you’ve missed in the world of celebrities and fashion.

Karl Lagerfeld Dies at 85

If you have trouble picturing the fashion and cultural landscape without Karl Lagerfeld in it, you’re not alone. Despite his age, the legendary designer seemed impossible to slow down, producing multiple fashion collections a year – and huge productions to stage them – for Chanel and Fendi. When he wasn’t designing, he was behind the lens, shooting campaigns and short films. He never seemed to stop.

However, this week brought the tragic news that Lagerfeld passed away at the age of 85. The fashion world was brought a grinding halt as grieving industry heads, supermodels, fellow designers, and fans posted tributes to the genius on social media. For more on Lagerfeld’s passing, you can read our obituary here and take a look back at his life in photos here.

R. Kelly Turns Himself In

After a new video surfaced of troubled R&B singer R. Kelly assaulting a minor, an indictment was issue for his arrest on February 22. Kelly, who has been charged with ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, turned himself in to Chicago police the following day. Although his lawyers insist on his innocence, the video clearly shows Kelly committing the act and will be impossible to dismiss. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: It’s the remix to ignition / send R. Kelly to prison

Jussie Smollett Is Charged with Filing False Police Report

After Empire star Jussie Smollett came forward regarding an attack, which he said was racially motivated, an outpouring of support flooded his way from both the civil and entertainment spheres – except it has become quite clear that Smollett faked the whole thing. Chicago police quickly caught on to several factors that didn’t add up: the men alleged in the attack were extras on Empire and acquaintances of Smollett, he appeared to have paid them by check, and he went home and called his manager after the attack (instead of going straight to the police).

The actor has since been charged with submitting a fraudulent police report and faces up to three years in jail. As cringeworthy as this story is, it overshadows the fact that hate crimes are steeply on the rise in the US, and therefore undermines the stories of real victims.

Tommy x Zendaya Is Revealed

It’s hard not to be infatuated with Zendaya. Not only is she a stunning triple threat who can sing, dance, and act, but she also has great comedic timing and is a “woke” voice for her generation. She also happens to be a budding style icon, with amazing red carpet sensibilities. Adding to an extensive list of successes, she can now put “fashion designer” on her CV. Tommy Hilfiger smartly tapped the fashionable young star for a new collaborative partnership after the success of 2018’s collections with Gigi Hadid.

While the model’s work with the brand was sporty in aesthetic, Zendaya’s collection is surprisingly polished and outfitted with a hint of 1970s flare. Her taste levels are high, which means the new Tommy x Zendaya is really covetable. There are cool leather skirts, gleaming brocade suits, and sparkling knit dresses to choose from. Steal a little bit of that Zendaya shine by shopping the collection on March 2, following the premiere of the TommyNow runway show in Paris.
