A candlelit dinner? On Valentine’s Day? Groundbreaking.
Today, we suggest dismissing all the clichés that come with being in love in the middle of February, marking the occasion by doing something you and your other half will actually remember instead. Whether you’re a cinephile, a theater buff, an amateur chef, a music aficionado, or a bona fide foodie, you’re bound to find an idea of interest in our round-up, below.
Considering that the history of chocolate begins in Mesoamerica (modern-day countries like Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador), Taco Cocoa Loco is no ordinary Valentine’s Day dinner. Artisanal chocolate factory Mirzam is joining forces with Maiz Tacos to host a delicious five-course dinner through which – you guessed it – chocolate will be the star attraction. Expect to dine on molé made with single-origin dark chocolate, icy chocolate horchata, tacos made from scratch, and a dessert platter featuring oh-so-much-more chocolate.

Tell Your Story
Why reminisce silently on your love story when you can see it re-enacted on stage? Independent performance venue Courtyard Playhouse is famous for its improv’ comedy nights, so naturally, it will host a special edition for the world’s most divisive holiday. Entitled First Kiss, this two-hour session will kick off at 8 p.m. and promises a night of romance, laughter, and love as its best improvisers will entertain with scenes based on audience suggestions.
Las Vegas is synonymous with grander-than-grand performances and, luckily for us, a sliver of it will soon arrive in Dubai as WOW takes residence at Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai. This award-winning variety show stars over 30 acrobats, dancers, aerialists, and contortionists performing mind-blowing choreography on a stage lit by everything from 3D projections to holograms. Even better? The Rotunda – the dome-like venue where WOW will be staged – allows for 360-viewing for its 500 guests, so your other half won’t have much to complain about.

Take a Walk
If you and your significant other keep meaning to explore the lesser known neighborhoods of Dubai, but haven’t, here’s your chance. February 14th will see the return of Middle Eastern Food Pilgrimage by Frying Pan Adventures, a culinary tour designed to introduce participants to the best of Egyptian, Palestinian, Lebanese, and Iranian cuisine via a walking trail in Deira. It will include a whopping ten tastings alongside a crash course on regional food traditions such as eating with hands and detecting grades of saffron – all accented with gastro trivia galore.

Food is the “great connector” – the greatest, we’d argue – and it somehow tastes even better when you’re the one donning the apron. With this in mind, Top Chef has designed a couples-friendly cooking class entitled Love Is in the Plate, which will entail four courses featuring some of the most decadent ingredients known to man. And regardless of how different your palates are, you’re both bound to like the sound of a ‘Passion Fruit & Chocolate Bar with Exotic Sorbet & Mango Diamond’ for dessert.
