“She's the lady in red when everybody else is wearing tan // The flashy girl from Flushing, the Nanny named Fran.”

Whether you watched early 90s sitcom The Nanny because you ‘shipped her relationship with the dapper Maxwell Sheffield, because you adored the relationship she forged with the Sheffield clan, or because you loved Fran Fine’s (Fran Drescher) unique voice, chances are high that some of her outfits from the show are still burned into your memory banks. As one of the era’s most surprising style icons, Drescher’s wardrobe on The Nanny captured the essence of the tacky, bold, delightfully brazen styles of a certain type of a woman. Lime green leather jackets, zebra-striped furs, skin tight cropped separates, gold sequined mini dresses – there wasn’t an attention-grabbing look that Fran didn’t gravitate towards. What’s more is that in revisiting her iconic styles from the show, which ran from 1993 to 1999, so many of the looks are perfect for the modern era. Instead of looking dated, they look fresh to death.

Integral to capturing Fran’s best fashion moments from the show is the Instagram account @WhatFranWore. Not only is this fan account devoted to posting the best looks, but it also painstakingly tracks down who designed the pieces. Talk about dedication.

But after seeing all of the incredible designer finds that Fran wore throughout the show – from Stephen Sprouse’s ‘Andy Warhol’ blazer and tons of Todd Oldham, Thierry MuglerVersace and Moschino – we have to ask: just how big was Mr. Sheffield’s nanny budget?
