The Golden Globe Nominations Are In
The 2019 Golden Globe nominations are in, and they contain some history-making moments. Constance Wu, who was nominated for her role in Crazy Rich Asians, is the first Asian woman to be nominated for the award in more than 50 years. Black Panther, Mary Poppins Returns, and A Star is Born also collected a round of nominations for Best Picture. Buzzy television shows like The Americans, Homecoming starring Julia Roberts, and The Good Place also picked up nominations. Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh will team up to host the 2019 Golden Globe awards on January 6, 2019 on NBC. You can view the full list of nominations here.
...And So Are the Grammy Nominations
Call Post Malone a psychic, because his new album “Record of the Year” just snagged a Grammy nomination for album of the year. The 61st Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 10, 2019 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, also recognized albums by Drake, Childish Gambino, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Cardi B as the best in their respective categories. The Best New Artist category tapped newcomers like Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha, fashionable twins Chloe x Halle, and Jorja Smith. You can view the full list of nominations here.
Cardi B Splits with Offset
It’s been quite a week for Cardi B. While the rapper went to court over assault charges, and came out to find out she had been nominated for – not one – but five Grammys, she also contended with a broken heart. Cardi B took to Instagram to squash the rumors and confess that her marriage to Offset of the Atlanta trap group Migos was over. While Cardi B is typically over-the-top with her Instagram missives, this video showcased her subdued side, where she described a relationship that had evolved past romantic love. After leaving the post up for several days, she took it down, ostensibly to remove the distraction from her recent nominations.
Chanel Is Banning Exotic Skins
While many major fashion brands have committed to going fur-free in the future, Chanel has taken it one step further by also announcing a ban on exotic animal skins. Citing difficulty in sourcing ethically obtained skins, Chanel chose instead to ban them from manufacturing processes altogether. As one of the world’s biggest luxury brands, Chanel’s influence in this realm cannot be overstated — especially for Savoir Flair, which has been a magazine to ban fur since its inception over nine years ago.
Marc Jacobs Launches Diffusion Line
After a leaked image made its way online early, Marc Jacobs took to Instagram to spill the beans about his new diffusion line. The new label, entitled “The Marc Jacobs” will now offer his classic, grunge-meets-uptown aesthetic at much more affordable price points. After Marc Jacobs shuttered his diffusion line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, in 2015, rumors have circulated that the brand was nearing its end.
However, we couldn’t be happier to see his well-timed comeback, which includes a revisit to the Grunge Collection he designed for Perry Ellis back in 1993 that put him on the fashion map. Marc Jacobs’ ‘Redux Grunge’ collection includes 26 looks from the original collection and is currently available online and in stores.
Burberry Launches Collaboration with Vivienne Westwood
Two of Britain’s greatest exports, Burberry and Vivienne Westwood, have been engaged in a long-awaited collaboration at the behest of Riccardo Tisci. We were expecting excellence, but what we weren’t expecting was another British fashion icon – Kate Moss – to appear in the ad campaign for the collaboration, shot by David Sims. Talk about a fashion moment. Featuring the classic Burberry check, the Vivienne Westwood collaboration offers British classics and modernism in tandem. There are silk bomber jackets with slogans that urge readers to save the rainforest (proceeds of the sales for these pieces will benefit the rainforest charity Cool Earth) and fully-checkered “dandy” suits, as well as leather-buckled mini kilts in the mix. You can shop the full collection in stores and online now.
